Go Kart not fast enough

hey guys,

I no this is kind of gay, but i need to make my go kart have a little more power. I have a 6.5 HP honda now, and i can get my 100 pound frame and me up to 51 w/o the governor. If you guys no anything about this, can you give me some advice?

there like a 12 ounce can of nos booster thats supposed to help.. they use it at the race track all the time so it could work for that
 
buy a new carb,

increase or remove the exhaust system,

buy a bigger air filter,

new spark plugs and wires,

different gear ratio,

Better fly wheel/centrifugal clutch,

different tire?

Thats I can think of at the moment but there are tons more stuff. You would be surprised what 5 small changes can do.

damn you... mine goes 30 tops and it reaks every 5 minuites, i think i have a poped tire and sothing wrong with the rip cord thing... i think im gonna fix it and sell it to some 7 year old..
 
yo 51 is like absolute MAX, and i dont even do that often because the thing will blow up if i push it any harder. I took off the exhaust system, and it was so loud i couldnt hear myslef yelling at the top of my lungs. Idk what ill do but i was thinkin of planing the head or boring it out. idk tthanks for the help.
 
dude you cant bore an engine like that. There just isn't the components.

It sounds like you want to make a go cart into a shifter cart. If you really want more power mount a 125cc dirt bike engine on there and run a gear box other wise just try to fine tune that engine.

My Go Kart is ghetto. It's got a 2.5 horse power rotortiller engine in it. I'm lucky if I can get it to run for 10 minutes.
 
One time I was riding my go cart and the fuel line came undone and caught the engine on fire. I was so freaked out I just jumped off and it slowly rolled to the end of the street. By the time I got a bucket full of water the entire thing had just about melted. It was pretty epic.
 
it is quite possible to bore out that engine; i have seen iot done before. Is there any way to mount a gear box w/ the eninge i have?
 
haha mine goes 125. id get a new engine, even if you use like 110 octane racing fuel, better exhaust new air filter and all that you wont see a very big difference.

what kind of engine is it? i know you can modify some engines to run on alcohol and that would be a huge difference.

but if you can mount one on your chassis id get a rotax engine, its almost 30 hp and it will kick a ferrari's ass in the right rpm range.
 
what gokart do you have? 125cc or 250cc whit gearbox?

mine did aroung 90mph, and had a 20hp yamaha engine.

prolly gonna drive rotax max challange this season, if i get a kart for it
 
higher octane gas wont do anything. its not a high compression motor.

also taking the exhaust off will make it even slower because there wont be any backpressure.

uprgade your injectors and spark plugs, it will give you more torque but wont do anything for top speed, top speed is more of the gearing, and im pretty sure you cant do shit about that with a go kart unless you wanna drop some serious $$. just go to the junkyard and pick up an old honda engine, a small 2 stroke will do just fine.

 
Racing Karts are so sick my grandparents live in FL and there is a track there where you can rent them they go about 75 its fucken crazy. I watched a race with some karts that hit about 135. My advice to you is get a briggs an stratton and get it modified to run alcahol and maybe it will make 10 horse your best bet is to change the gear ratio if you want top speed
 
its a honda 200cc 4 stroke 1:1 gear ratio horizontal shaft engine without a gearbox.I got a 6:1 gear ratio from the shaft to the axle, and the axle is not live. Im not sure how i could mount a gearbox, but if anyone has/noes how, post pics
 
if your in highschool take smallengine repair as an elective. i took it and a kid brought in a gokart and we made it hull some major ass. it was unbeliveable
 
i'm taking that next semester, next year (when he gets to highschool) they are getting rid of all our autos classes and shit, its mad gay. so he won';t be able to take it.
 
yo why the FUCK are they doing that? Who the hell's idea was that? Jesus christ, and then they wonder why no one noes shit about engines or cars. Why the hell dont they either deacrese the amount of money put into those classes, or just keep them the way they are and take money away from fucking music and arts? Thats fucked up.
