POWER: GORE MANSION USES 20X AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD; CONSUMPTION INCREASE AFTER 'TRUTH'

Mon Feb 26 2007 17:16:14 ET

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions, issued a press release late Monday:

Last night, Al Gore's global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore's mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore's average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore's energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore's extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore's mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

"As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use," said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

He is such a crazy hypocrite. I think he is actually crazy...all that global warming stuff people are crying about (in particular the politicians) exists to push a political agenda and to try and hurt our economy therefore hurting Pres. Bush/republicans.

From my experiences of talking to environmentalists and hearing what they have to say the VAST majority are flaming hypocrites. And I would like someone to prove me wrong about that.

That's nothing compared to the house getting built by where I live.

This will have 500 times the energy consumption of the average home in Bozeman. It's estimated that they will use 150,000 gallons of propane to heat their 1/2 mile driveway every year, and the owners might live in it a couple months a year at the most. I don't think there are any permenant residents of the Yellowstone Club.

we all know this dude secretly turns on all the lights on in his house after Al Gore goes to bed

He actually participates in carbon neutrality. Basically, to repay the amount of pollution you put into the atmosphere by a plane flight you plant trees which will suck that carbon out of the air over the years. Its not much, true, but its one of those "if everyone did it" things. I'm planning on doing this the next time I take a trip.

And theres no dispute that global warming is occurring... the dispute (which I find outlandish) is that we're not effecting our climate. 75% of climactic research shows that we are in fact contributing, with the majority of the other 25% either unclear or no effect. Honestly, how can you think we're not damaging our environment?

Why are so many skiers on this site completely oblivious? Ugh, NS, you disappoint....

my family is extremely liberal and try to reduce using gas and energy

we ride bikes everywhere in the summer

have 2 subarus and a hybrid

sister is studying environmental engineering at UVM

I'm not addressing your "hypocrite" claim, but I just want to make sure that you realize that GLOBAL WARMING IS REAL and that it is now scientifically 95% certain that humans are a major cause of it. At this point in both the scientific and political world, there are almost no people left claiming that we are not a part of global warming.

While heating and cooling of the planet are in fact natural events, the current rate of warming is unlike anything in the history of the earth. Look at any chart, and you can see the unbelievable sharp rise of co2 levels and whatnot. Just putting that out there.

just to make you feel beter rowen....i saw gore at the key arena a few months back. and for all you non-believers, i went to Glacier National Park in Montana last summer, and there were no glaciers. seriously, they were like 15% of what there should have been for that time of year.....

all of those facts were in a "study" conducted by a rigth funded biased organisation. who do you WANT to believe? scapegoats are bitches. and either way, global warming is knocking at our doorstep.

Even if you think global warming is happening or not, it wont hurt us to clean up our atmosphere. It may decrease the risk of cancer or defomities cause by polution
