Glidecam HD vs XR

searchbarred and couldnt find anything.

I was just wondering what makes the hd version that much better than the xr versions of glidecam. I am looking to get one but is the HD really that much more worth it? Ill be using the 1000 for both just because im shooting with a dslr but I just want to know if the HD is worth is to save up or if the XR series does the job really well too

Okay so I was wondering the exact same thing. I poked around some forums (dvx User) and B&H.

Basically from what I understand, the HD has full adjustability on the camera base plate and counter-weight plate.

The XR has no adjustability on the counter weight plate but has the knobs for fine adjustment found on the HD for the camera base plate.

The Pro has neither camera base plate or counter weight fine adjustment.

So the HD is the top of the line, XR is the middle, and the Pro is the inferior glidecam.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong

I'm pissed that the HD2000 went up from $450 to $500 on B&H. The product gets older but the price rises? They also discontinued the 2000 Pro on B&H last I checked.

Something going on?

inferior, but still soooo good. the 2000Pro has always worked perfect for me.. you just have to have it balanced specifically for different things.. mine doesnt produce very good walking glide shots, but i would like to think i have it as dialed as can be for skiing, which is its sole purpose for me. i would fail 'the drop test' with flying colors if i tried.

so do you have a ton of weights on the bottom of your glide cam? how many weights would you recommend to put on it because i also have a 2000 pro/ dslr setup

The Pro is a real pain in the ass. It's possible to get great results with them, but the balancing mechanisms lack the resolution and speed of the HD series. With the HD I can break it down into pieces for touring, then reassemble and rebalance from scratch in under a minute. Definitely worth the extra coin in my opinion.

Does anyone know how stable the XR 4000 is compared to the HD 4000? Ik that the 4000 is more stable in wind then the 2000 so I was wondering if a comparison like that occurred with the XR compared to the HD. Also how is the Flycam 5000? I've been looking at that for a while and it looks pretty much the same as the HD 4000.
