Certainly not "all" you need to know about healthcare, but it is a start.
However, before we do have sweeping health care legislation put through, I would have first liked to see at least a few things tried.
1. Allow insurance companies to sell policies across state lines, let the market drive down prices.
2. Eliminate coverage mandates - Let people get plans tailored to
them, there are many things that must be covered that much of the
population does not need!
3. TORT reform
4. Higher deductibles - Eliminate the moral Hazard, people pay
there deductibles for the year then keep going to the Dr. ordering more
x-rays and other unnecessary procedures with out ever thinking of the
price. Make people shop around and help create an incentive for lower
prices. Then if something catastrophic does happen, the higher
deductible, while perhaps a slight burden, does not bankrupt the family
and more people will be able to afford health insurance.
5. HSA's - Individual health savings accounts the individual pays
into. This money is used first for primary care purposes. What ever is
not spent at the end of the year is returned to the consumer.
There are a few more things, but these in my eyes at least are changes that may have had a positive effect on our health care system, unfortunately though I don't think they will ever get the chance.
At least there won't be a public option though, I don't want to see1/6 of our economy completely controlled by our government.
