Give your input for reality ski test

Some of you already know about the ski test I am running. There will be parc testing on both sections. I will be checking out swing weight, stability landing switch etc. But one thing we will be checking mostly is finding an edge bevel that will work sliding rails, and then taking the ski to all mtn use without losing edge grip. That is primarily for the Tremblant section of the test in December.

For the Whistler section we will be hitting their parc there as well with the much fatter 06 model twintips. We will also be testing the skis doing hits in the BC. The Whistler test covers 7 days.

What's the point of the 'optimal' edge bevel at all on rails? If you slide rails, you know that any kind of bevel at all will disappear pretty quick. But then again, if the same person running the test is the same person doing rails, who happens to be the same person doing switch tricks, then a 40-something year-old tester isn't really representative of the market, now is it? ;p

TJ is running a reality ski test for chairity - which means that after the skis are used, they will be put up for auction and all proceeds will go with CADS (disabled skiers organization). he has a line up a people who will be testing various skis - the point of it is that most ski testing is done by ex-olympic downhill skiers, and, well, whatever they think about a ski might not be the same as what a normal consumer might think of the same ski.

No seriously. I'm 42 hah. But I've got some pretty good parc ;p rats doing the testing here, and at whistler. And yes I play in the parc as well. I helped build the darn thing after all.

And the test is getting some serious coverage. TV is involved now. So alot of work needs to be done to get out the most honest information for the skiing consumer. That is why I asked in here. So put behind you the thought of doing the 'cool slam' pubic boy posts as a way to be popular, and give some honest input.

Actually the skis auction will start off at a very low price. And the buy it now price will be very low as well.

I will also be holding a silent auction after the first day of each section of the test where you can buy the skis directly. I don't see any ski being sold for more that $400. Frankly we will be asking for the 'buy it now' from $325-400.

We are getting the account set up for the money to go directly into the CADS account. We will never see it. Skiers buying the test skis can sleep calmly knowing that the money went directly to charity.

Also on the sites a review page will be set up if you demo a ski tested and want to give your opinion.

The Whistler test March 28 to April 5, 2005 will be of the 06 model skis. The results getting out 5 months before any publication, and you could buy the skis 6 months before any store sees them.

2 degree base bevel seems to work well for me. or if you still have a problem, 3 degree base and 2 degree side bevel

 
Ya Justo that is what we were figuring as well. Still we are going to try out a few combos on each ski to see what works best.

On a few twintip models there is a carry over from what we checked out last year just playing around because the skis didn't change except for the graphics on the 05 models.

But with the goode, kooteney, Zag and other brands the tune learning curve starts all over.

The Tremblant test for the twin tips we basically start once we get some of the rails and hits set up (Nov 26) to December 5.

If you are in the area and want to check it out. Be at the Gondola by 8:15am. Not a minute later.

so are you going to give the skis a complete tune after every tester cus once you start putting any ski on a rail the edge performance on the snow will change but if you keep it on the snow the guy who rides it first will have near the same experience as the last guy but that cant happen with riding rails.

But good luck with i just think the results will be very unaccurate.

Pete is currently sulking around Mt. Hood, shooting with Poor Boyz Productions and hitting on Kristi Leskinen. She hates guys, Pete lamented, so it’s not going good. Apparently Canada isn’t the only thing that’s tough for Pete to get into.

Got some killer news today. Seems we will have somebodys 06 model twintip at the first section of the test in Tremblant.

Sorry I have to be a tease and can't tell who. But I am working on that ski being part of the Auction. :D
