Hey guys,

I'm doing a project in my GIS class about ski area development. Basically I have to prove that the mountain i selected is suitable for a ski area. I need information on ideal soil make up, watershed and run off, too design of snowmaking systems, lifts, slope/pitch of the hill etc. If you guys know any sites I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

ESRI my bad

Im pretty sure that they have GIS stuff for tons of places all over the earth dont know where it is on the site though.

wow i just did the same project prity much, except mine was on a state wide basis where i selected a specific site in vt by elevation, slope, snowfall and proximity to utilities, major highways and population centers. I don't know what state your place your looking at is in but look at the states gis clearinghouse site, theres usually a bunch of stuff on there. only bad thing is i had to buy my precipitation and average monthly temperature data from a company called climate source.

Thanks for the replies guys, my project is for Mt Bigelow in Maine (right across from sugarloaf) I know i can find maps from my state GIS site. I really need to find research literature that says for example a slope between 10-40% is ideal for a ski area etc.

I'll add more to this later...
