which helmet is lighter, fits good with beanie and goggles underneath, and is cheaper. i have a 7 1/8 size head so which size of either helmet would i have to get

+k for good answers

Ive never worn a Giro Shiv but i love my Poc Receptor Bug. It isnt crazy light but by no means is it heavy. For a beanie underneath you can really customize it to your liking between taking out the ear pads and parts of the liner. I dont wear a beanie underneath but have heard good things about it. Pricewise the Giro Shiv is about $80.00 and the Poc is $120.00. Yeah the poc is a good bit more but i believe with a helmet you should spend a little more, and you get alot of extras with the poc. I got a complete set of extra pads, a bankers brim, a goggle holder, and a nice helmet ban. I vote for the Poc.

Go to a store bring your hat and goggles and try the different helmets on.

Everybody has different shaped heads, we cant tell you what will be good over the interwebz.

I have had both, the poc is amazing. It is so much stronger and waaaaaaayyyyy better quality. in saying that it is considerably more expensive. Just carrying the shiv in my bag or back of my car it got dented and stuff. Moral of the story, if you value your safety and steeze enough to even buy a helmet buy a good one. The poc receptor bug.

rant

The POC is like 10 billion times better than the Giro but the Giro is for sure lighter and cheaper. Look on the site for sizing info and probably just size up from the chart for beanie and gogs

Protection wise the POC is way better than the Shiv

However I have a Shiv and I absolutely love it, super light (its lifted right off my head a couple of times when hitting a roller or going really fast with the strap loose), low profile and i love how the pads come on and off without having velcro exposed on the inside of the helmet so you can wear a beanie underneath and it wont get destroyed

love my Shiv and I'd love to try out a POC just pricey for me perhaps ill pick one up in the future.

i had the poc and hated it, very big, didnt fit well, heavy for a helmet, not good ventilation, ect ect ect.

this seriously happens to me all the time, with my shiv and with my encore when i had that. and its not big and the straps not that loose. kind of weird.

i have the encore now and i hate it. it does not fit right at all. which is wird cause i had another encore before and it fit me like a charm. how would you compare your shiv to your encore

it may sound weird but i honestly would say the shiv is less wide than the encore. and also i just like the overall fit better.

Get the POC, it was a great decision on my part. It looks steezy and it is extremely sturdy. It is your head you are trying to protect, I'm sure you don't want to end up as a vegetable later on because your Giro Shiv cracked in half.

sorry to thread jack... but the closest place that sells poc is 180 mi away. i really want a receptor bug but i dont know what size to get. i would probs take out the pads and put a beanie under it. HELPPPPP!!!!!!!

i have to get a new helmet for this winter and i'm thinking the POC. i had a shiv but learning rodeo's this summer may have done somthing to it, it is chipping at the brim and there are a number of dents.

the shiv is CRAZY light though so that may be a big selling point.

Sorry to bump an oldish thread, but how do you take the ear pads out of the Shiv. I just got my Shiv, and the guy at the store said you could take them out, but when I brought them home, they would not come out. +K for help if that matters.

it feels like you're going to break them, but just pull down, also if you're not going to be using the earpieces anyway, whats to worry about

awesome. helpful thread when im looking at both helmets. love hearing all the positive vibes going for the poc.
my question - how are crowbars with the receptor bug?

I have the shiv, it looks great but protection-wise the poc is better. I smoked my head on a rail and the shiv now has a massive crater lol. I think im gonna get the smith maze because i can get it cheap and its incredibly light. Not to thread jack but does anyone have any insight on the maze or holt versus these other helmets?

i have both and for what you just said that you are looking its a shiv but i still thing that receptor is better and more durable.

I just got the receptor bug, and I don't feel like it is super heavy, but I do notice it is pretty heavy, does it make much of a difference skiing-wise?

^^^^^ the maze is lighter!!! the POC is BLINGER and the giro well, its good i cant really bad mouth it, i like my maze cuz i have IO's

I heard that people break their necks when they do heavy heads with the receptor bug. Other then that, I don't think it will affect your skiing much.

Oooh, that sounds dangerous. But yes, i've decided the same, I think I'd like a bit of a heavier helmet anyway because it may just feel more comfortable to me.
