Girlfriends First Set Up Help

Hey just curious if you guys think this will be an alright set up for my girlfriend first real set up. She's still a type 1 skier coming off some shitty 68 wide 2002 skis.

I found these 2008 k2 misconduct skis with marker contact control 11 bindings for 60 bucks.https://www.evo.com/outlet/skis/k2-missconduct-womens-2008

She'll mostly be ripping the groomers and trying to progress while following me around. Should I look for a little wider ski with rocker down the road or do you think this should suit her needs, I just don't want to set her up for failure like those last skis I put her on.

She's 5'4 115lbs

Thanks!

Wants to have fun, get better and yeah start cheaper/budget :p

Does she have park skiing or jumping aspirations?

Do you have a particular number you're looking to stay under?

With Bachelor stated as your local, are you in Bend or the greater Bend area? The craigslist there shows many options for budget setups.

One thing to consider in buying used skis more than a few years old are bindings that are no longer on the indemnification list. Unless you do all your own mounting and adjustments.

The sierratradingpost link above for the black crows has some awesome deals though the sizes are limited. I just bought a pair of the Ova Birdies for my wife from there. That ski is obviously not a freestyle ski but should do well on most other terrain except for deep powder. We ski Tahoe mostly so don't see too much pow.

It all depends where you are. that would be a great ski to learn on but if she is a type 1 then then I suggest something cheaper

The Head Joy series is a pretty good all-mountain ski group. Gives her something to grow (learn) into. Personally, my sis rides the Total Joy's and loves them

My girlfriend could turn kinda, then I bought her some honey badgers and now she hits rails. Yeah it took some work, but its a good soft ski that she will enjoy riding for a long time.

Except for today... and tomorrow.

Just because it's fresh doesn't mean it's powder. I was sort of joking. It's been a while since I've had the fortune of skiing in more than a foot or so of fresh snow and at 85 under foot for a ladies ski I think the Black Crows Ova should be fine for most days.

For 60 bucks its hard to go wrong... Seems like a solid ski to me...only 80 under foot, but it widens up at the tip quite a bit, so that will help her out a lot.. It also might be nice coming off a 68! Jeez I mean some people pay more than $60 for a day of rental gear!

Boots are most important. When my girlfriend started we got some good used skis but invested in a brand new boots.

Comfort it key to keep complaints to a minimum!

Amen, we've already been through one pair. We snagged a good deal on some newer Solomon with like cozy 70 flex for her.

Got my girlfriend some k2 remedy's on a good deal and they have upped her game massively, they are a decent stiff ski for shredding piste but also a decent twin and a good rise on the front for park/fresh days

I have to reply to this post as I am 5’4 was looking for a good set of skis and was looking at the missconducts too. I’m a type 2 skier and I am getting into park. I went with the K2 remedy’s 92 as well. I went with the 163’s. I ski the east. I only took them out once so far. Literally just got them. The ladies in her recommended them as a durable, park and all mountain ski. They also recommended the missconducts. I was riding Fisher bullet proof 150s. I move so much quicker and with less effort on my K2s. I was hoping for less weight but I went longer so it’s about the same weight. I think the missconducts are a good choice. They are smaller waist, less weight, but still durable and great for park or all mountain. A few of the freeski women ski the missconducts. I would get ur gf smaller than her height. Skis that come up to her chin or just above. Just curious to the guy above.... did u get the remedy’s off eBay? I was bidding on a pair for a really really good deal and was out bid at the last second!

My gf just got candide 2.0 youths and they're perfect length for her. It's her first season but I'm stoked that she will get to progress with a great ski.

No I didn't get them in eBay, my local shop had them! They are quite hard to find at a good price actually!

If you’re at bachy, then you live in Bend yeah? Head over to gearfix. There’s a couple pairs of good skis there rn. Saw a pair of 162 line Pandora’s there like an hour ago with sth12s. Perfect bachy ski. Also a few k2 women’s skis around. On the no bindings rack there’s a couple smaller g3/ blue house skis. Also in the back by the kids skis/snowboards there’s a couple 155-170 park/all mtn skis and I think a pair of 163 Icelantic oracle 100s if they’re still there. Don’t you dare touch the 172 Pandora’s w/ tele bindings tho, saving up to get those for my girl haha.
