Hey what's up guys? I haven't posted on this site in ages (look @ the member #), but am back to elicit some advice from you gear gurus. My buddy and I are planning a trip out west and I'm looking for some new skis/boots. I'm riding on very old Salomon 1080 boots and 2006 Rossignol Scratch FS skis and it's time for an upgrade. I still ride the park here and there, but as I transition into my professional career (I'm a dentist), I've become more cautious and tend to stick to the trees and powder.

So that said, I'm looking for a ski that isn't totally overkill for the east coast, but also more than sufficient for anything I might encounter in Jackson Hole. Also looking for some new boots as well - I wish I could specify if I like soft/stiff boots, but honestly I don't know - I've been riding on the same pair for almost 10! years. So I'm open to any suggestions you all might have.

For reference I'm 5'10" and about 155lbs. And don't let the job fool you, money is definitely still a concern - the cheaper the better! If anyone has any used gear that has a lot of life left, don't hesitate to post here or PM me.

Thanks!

dalbello and salmon makes some nice boots. I really like my dalbello kypton 2. has adjustable flex, intuition liners that will adjust to your foot shape. the liners are so warm and toasty.

I found a set of Salomon SPK 85 on the cheap... are they crap? I know they're super soft. Any other downsides? Thanks for the input!

go to a bootfitter, OP

it's better to spend $600 on nice new fitted boots than to suffer in a pair of shitty ones until you can afford to buy another pair of new boots

K2 Kung Fuja's are great out west but I know plenty of people that still ski them back east. They are not too wide only about 100mm but more than wide enough for some fun pow.

if looking for something wider..

the K2 ObSETHed's are awesome, you can find some relatively cheap ones the are used but in good condition. They don't make them new anymore but don't let that stop you from considering them.

also

For boots Lange makes some great ones also look at technica

for the boots, go to your local TRUSTED shop.

slalomon rocker2 series is nice, the 100mm option would be great for the east where the 108 or 122mm would slay it out west

liberty sequence or helix would be other good options again the helix would be better out west and the sequence would be good at home

atomics vintage series ranges from 83mm (underfoot) to 103

but that's just the tip of it. hope this is useful to you.

feel free to pm me

oneohsomething underfoot worked great for me as an east coast pow/western dd before I moved. Most companies make a twin in that width that will be versatile enough to cover many conditions but is still fun if the snow is soft. I ride a rossi s6, I really like line sfb, but its hard to go wrong these days.

the red boots generally work best

Icelantic Nomads for skis! Pricey, but worth it. I just bought the Icelantic Oracles, very similar female version, and they RIP. on EVERYTHING. Great east - west coast crossover ski. I am venturing out to big sky this winter myself.
