so im gonna go to camp of champions and i plan on filming when im up there and filming an edit. How do i get my edit to be seen on newschoolers so its not just another edit on here. I'll have good shots so I won't need to worry about the skiing.

Build the hype, on your social media/ns every few days post some b roll shots that are still dope reminding people to scope the edit. Then the day of the edit or day before drop a teaser and announce the time the edit will be live. Also once you post a video your work isnt done, keep the half life up by sharing your old work now and again, not all your fans or friends will have seen it and if they have, it subconsciously makes them share if they remember it being good. Hope that helps, also spend some time looking at the times big edits get posted during the day aim for 7-10am east coast

Most of the time, if an edit is good, it will naturally do well on here. When you say you'll have "good" shots, do you mean high quality? You could have a great camera but if the skiing isn't dope, it won't do well.

step 1: be yourself. that would be different than most.

step 2: dont put any value in views or ratings, but rather make an edit you are hyped to watch yourself. If no one else likes it who cares?

Idk about this one, I make edits to express what I'm feeling and seeing on the hill and how I interpret it in my head and then share it with others. Idc if people like it but having less then 50 views on something is kind of a bummer when sharing the experience is ur goal

there ya go. sharing the experience is your goal. why? if you can transfer completely to internal validation then you only need 1 view to be happy with your video.

hahaha and some people would say that.

I made edits to have a video memory of what my friends and I were up to. So glad I did. Its awesome to look back on every once and a while. Sorta of a video yearbook if you will.

I understand why you would think getting views on your video is a reasonable goal. There is a view count so you can't help but notice it. What if there weren't though? How would you know your video was "good"

My real fear is that kids get too wrapped up in it instead of getting wrapped up in skiing. I have been guilty of this at times and those are my least favorite videos. Making a good edit isn't easy, and even if you do make a good edit that doesnt mean people are going to see it so maybe next time you decide not to film because "why bother?" But if you make an edit that you are happy with then you'll keep making them because of that joy. Perhaps they will gain more attention and impact another skier in a positive way. Thats worth more than a million views. If you instill your same passion into another skier then you help this all to continue.

yeah I guess I kind of misinterpreted op, I thought he was talking about just promoting the edit.

to Op: for the editing itself being unique is definitely a step in the right direction, whether its song choice, color grading, especially the thumbnail. copying another edits style isn't go to make people want to watch your edit, they probably just won't bother after the first 30 seconds.

This, if you're making an edit to try to be popular on a website and thats it then you won't enjoy it at all and it won't turn out nearly as well as if you truly cared

Couldn't be more truuu

Im thread jacking this thread to get views on my own shitty edit. The only way to get anywhere in this world is piggy backing off other people.

-Make sure you crop 2:35:1 even if it takes away from shots, it doesn't matter, it's a e s t h e t i c.

-Be sure to have some really basic trashy rap or trap song from the past 3 years so people know you're really hip and fresh with music trends.

-Never forget that you can't have enough film burn overlays as transitions or just throw them over every shot, it's like glitter you can't have too much.

-if you cut the shits carefully you can combine multiple shots from different tricks to create a trick you never actually did

-each clip must be in sync with the music because skiing is dancing and only gapers miss the beat

-you'll get 20 extra upvotes if you have a shot of the wheel on a chairlift as you get off playing in slow motion

-buy a bunch of followers and likes on Instagram so your edit post gets noticed on #newschoolers

This is the realest thing you've ever said. Kids take notes. When you're old and washed up you will look back at all the edits of your glory days and the last thing on your mind will be how many views it has.

If you want your edit to be seen title it

SIMPLE.|JAKE CARNEY. lulz but seriously if it's a good edit it will speak for itself and people will watch it.

It also feels good to create something. Its like when you land a really dope trick even tho no one was there to see it. You didn't do the trick to show off to others. And it still counted even though no one saw it. It just felt good to "create" the trick with your own interpretation of landings, grabs, etc. The edits are the same way. They are your creation and interpretation of the sport. It feels good to be validated by others but in the end all that matters is if you feel good about it.

I may have rambled a little but thats the best I can do to try and explain it

Confidence and gift of foresight skills are at a high level.
