Getting into Montana State and what it's like

I have a 2.95 and got a 1560 on my SATs what are my chances of getting in from out of state (Massachusetts) also what is the college like dorms, parties, fraternities ect

God I'm so confused by SAT scores now haha. When I was in high school the top you could get was 1600. Now I tell people I got a 1310 (very good back then) and people look at me like I suck.

...but I'm guessing with a 1500+, you got 500 on all three categories. With a 2.95, you also recieved a pretty average GPA. Montana State is a pretty 'whatever' school as far as it's programs are concerned (no offense to anyone, obviously) so if you really want to go, you'll probably get in without an issue if you apply - you just have to convince the parents at this point, bud.

As for parties and dorm life... Bozeman never seemed like a very party hearty place. It's not like Missoula anyway...

What do u mean? Most reviews say it's a really fun school aside from the skiing

I think he means Frat parties... I heard something about that too - I wouldn't honestly know the truth, though..

Sorta. I've heard from multiple different sources that all the frats are going dry at some point in the very near future. The frats as of now need to get permission from the police and the school when theyre going to throw a party.

Wait you guys actually care what the frats are doing at msu?

What are Bozeman and Missoula like as towns?

Really want to go to a "ski" college, but want a college that is not only good, but has some life to it (parties, good city, etc) and close to skiing.

UM, MU, UV, CU-B, etc seem like the best bets.

I think CU is the best school out of them, but its 46k out of state...

Im a sophomore at MSU, had the same gpa as you and got a 29 on my ACT, I'm out of state too (California). I got in too easily hahaha. The skiing is sweet and the parties are fun. Frats here suck, don't even bother looking at them. Plenty of partying to do outside of the frats. Freshman year live in Roskie or Hedges. Do not live in langford at all cost. The bud aint bad if you find a decent dealer, and Bozeman has good ass beer.

MSU student.. First off its a state school, its no feat to be accepted there, and like any place people are going to party, shouldnt ever have trouble finding any

Im in highschool right now living in Missoula and Missoula is a sick fucking town.

Go to Missoula for all-around dope college town and shitty park skiing. Go to MSU for two different options of Cold smoke powder or dope park laps. Your choice. I've lived in between both for years and got to taste the best montana has to offer. Lost trail is the nearest dope as fuck mountain...

unless you are very good and being cool and making friends with girls and older students the party scene wont be too great your first year, its not great ever really, mostly overcrowded. however bozeman is full of people who like skiing and partying and camping and doing really cool things so dont worry unless you really want an arizona state style party experience.

The Frats here are a fucking joke. They are actually frowned upon by almost everyone here because this town is like 80% dirt bag.

Do you have a pulse? Good, you're in!! Seriously, though, our school is fairly easy to get into. The dorms vary: North and South are connected to Miller, but are a little old. (South is dirtier than North, I was in North last year) Roskie is the party dorm, and there are others that are single gender only. The all boy's dorm is pretty nice from what I've experienced. As for parties, it's Bozeman. Our Greek life is super small, we have 7 frats and 4 sororities, they're all close knit though. (PPL ya know?)

Basically: We have good skiing, good environmental/engineering programs. Rad town. Too bad it's full, looks like you'll have to go to Utah.

God, Lost Trail is so fucking awesome...

Probably my favourite small random mountain I've ever been to... I think I paid like 29$ for a day ticket in 2008, the park was surprisingly awesome, and there was 8" of fresh that didn't get fully touched until probably the next day. 2nd time I went the snow wasn't so great, but it was still an awesome time with great vibes.

...yeah, it's an hour away and not quite Bridger or Big Sky, but fuck... LT, Snowbowl, and even Big Mountain are all within distance of Zootown without an issue.
