Getting from San Francisco-Squaw/Conditions

So let me just preface saying that I know this should probably go in regionals, but I wanted a fairly timely response soo yaa... here we are

With that said, I'm going to be in San Francisco for a work related trip this weekend through early next week (from PA). I'm trying to find a way to get to the tahoe area to squeeze a day of skiing in while I'm relatively nearby. I can't go saturday so the Bay area ski bus is out of the question and I was thinking about renting a car. On google maps, the drive seems doable for a day trip but I don't know about any possible unforeseen circumstances that could inhibit getting there timely as I've never skied tahoe before. Or if there are any other ways to get there that you guys know about, that would be awesome

Also being an east coaster with the occasional trip to the rockies, my standards are pretty low, so I'm assuming the conditions are still good with the ridiculous amount of snow this year

You should get some great slush turns, although that is a long way to drive for a day trip. The coverage in the Sierra is insane right now.

Yeah I'm probably just going to get up balls early and drive up and return the car late when I get home. I don't care about needing to drive 3-3.5 hours. Maybe I can convince my lab to pay for the car...

So I'm assuming you're going Sunday? There looks like there might be some weather but can't be too crazy. Your issue will be the drive back on Sunday with the tourists going back down to SF. That'll take you a while. That being said Squaw is 100% open and you might catch a late powder day.

I was at Squaw over the weekend, and make sure you bring your sun screen, I was dumb and now, no joke can barely even open my mouth...

I live in San Jose (about an hour from SF) and drive up to squaw almost every weekend. I'd guess about 3h15 minutes from the city. I would rent a car. 100% worth it! day trips up there are easy, and the conditions are prime for spring. tons of coverage right now. everyone is also in tahoe right now too, you got the bunch, and now gus kenworthy and bobby brown... theres a reason everyone is there

3 hours and 15 minutes? How fast do you guys drive? I always thought it was more like 4 without much traffic. I'm a Mammoth weekender and it is been a long time since I made the drive from San Fran to Squaw so maybe my memory is foggy, I just thought it was longer.

I could go Sunday or Monday (thinking Monday right now because of working around other stuff), but probably whichever the weather would be nicer on. But unfortunately, I guess technically I'm one of those tourists now that will be clogging the roads... But whatever, I'm willing to sit in traffic for a few hours to avoid work related responsibilities

Yeah What? San Jose is south of San Francisco so it is even farther?

But squaw is going off all the time. Might rain this weekend though...pray the temps drop and we get some snow

Yeah that seems crazy fast. It takes me about 3 going up from Berkeley w/o traffic (and an empty access road is pretty rare). What roads are you using?

Agree with everyone above. Day trips are super easy if it's not peak season. Expect 4+ hours coming back into town if you're coming back into SF proper. Drive up in the morning should be just slightly longer than 3 hours.
