Getting from Niseko to Nagano

Hey guys, so I planned a trip to Niseko around Christmas, but I need to make my way to Nagano around New Years to start work. Have any of my Japan-savvy NS brethren done this stretch by train? And also, will I be able to take my skis on said train? Any info would be much appreciated.
 
train would be a bitch and would take a long time i'd imagine...

Just fly from sapporo to matsumoto. cheaper, faster, and less of a fuss.
 
Awesome, thanks for the advice! I ended up booking a flight for convenience, although I was looking forward to experiencing the train life
 
I was looking to do this but the opposite (Nagano/Nazowa to Sapporo/Niseko).

Cheapest and most convenient route I found was to use the newer bullet trains that run between Nagano and Tokyo, then fly between Sapporo and Tokyo.

Someone correct me if this is shitty advice though haha
