Getting clips with car back up camera

1074172.jpeg

Pros:

-fisheye

-SD

-warm hues (very strobeck-esque)

-weatherproof

cons:

-not 4:3

-it’s attached to a truck

curious if anyone on here has gotten clips before with their backup camera. I think its potential as a filming rig is super underrated

This the type of vehicle you need for that

it looks way better than most fisheyes dude

"way better" is an extreme stretch, but to each their own. when you're shooting 720p it doesn't matter, a fisheye is a fisheye.

Honestly tho you’re dumb to buy this lens even if the footage quality is better. You might lose your life savings if you catch an edge or someone hits you. Not worth it imo

to be fair, i think it only retailed for $2k, they dont make it anymore and its only desired by skater film nerds.

its way wider than optekas for example, you get more in frame. Worth 150k? probably not but it looks better than most fisheyes out there

hilarious because it doesn't look any different than any other fisheye. and its massive, its moreso just a flex.

$14.99 on Amazon

I was under the impression that fisheye content was intended to be grainy and look like shit?

Maybe I just don't have an eye for it

Yes. Film the backup camera screen with another fisheye

honestly might be the only way to do it, but it would be even more hilarious. i was also thinking it would be sick to use the movement of the tailgate going down, or hatchback going up to get some dynamic movement in the shot.

Is there a way to do a screen recording? I have the same setup in my truck

It would be cool tho to be filming inside, capture it looking at the screen, and then pan out to the outside. Almost as a pov of it going on. That's how I imagined op was describing this idea.. This is a fantastic idea no matter how it's done.

why you would ever buy a 10k+ fisheye with the intention to stick it as closely as possible to someone on skis beats me. plus that rig is hardly maneuverable. xtreme + hpx/hvx + rails is like 10lb and over a foot long. sure, it's got a handle, but i'd rather shoot with something that's 2lb and barely larger than my hands.

the opteka are plenty wide. i bought a used opteka 6.5mm from BST forums in 2014 for $100, i still use the same lens today.

I also use a 100$ opteka fish and it’s great, I just think the extreme looks very cool. like filming longish rails from stationary from the side works better with extreme imo. like I said, it’s not worth 1500$ or whatever

Agree. I'm biased cuz I film with an opteka fisheye too. Xtreme is definitely a better fisheye but it's very difficult to justify the price. I don't even know what xtremes are going for these days but it's definitely more than $1500. 3k would probably be a steal, 6k might even be closer to the mark. Makes sense to have one if you're a big time filmer with funding but it's insane to drop your own money on an xtreme. You know it's a fucked situation when skate cam/fisheye ig pages are offering leasing options.
