Getting back into the jam after ACL surgery

I had my ACL surgery last year on December 25 and the new season is rolling around and I’m just wondering if there’s any advice or do’s or dont’s when getting back into it? Just a little nervous because I don’t want to do anything to injure myself again. Any tips from some ACL surgery veterans ?

Check out my IG for some ideas. Did you do solid rehab ?

Yea I feel like I did a good rehab and my knee feels pretty good and stable but how can I tell if I’m ready to hit the slopes again?

I used my comeback season to work on my skiing technique and get stoked on little things like side hits and shifties. Once you hit decent park features again you’ll come in with a new confidence and find that working on the basics is super beneficial

Ive had a few ACL surgeries, rehab is key. Like [tag=147716]@SkierPT[/tag] has on his page, follow some of his routines and it will be sure to help.

Put your boots on and sit on something that is high enough to keep your feet elevated off the floor(Like sitting on the chairlift). Turn your feet slowly to the left and right, just turning your lower leg. This will give you a feel of what it is going to be like with the added weight on your knee. If you feel any pain, keep working on the PT, focus on knee strengthening routines such as 1 legged stands and closing your eyes(great for your balance too). If you feel good enough to go slide some snow, just take it easy and listen to your body. Make some good turns and just get comfortable with skiing again. I know after any injury we tend to be intimidated at getting back into it but just take it easy and remember, 1 day at a time. Best of luck and congrats on getting back at it!

Two years ago I also busted my acl and had surgery in december. I didn’t really even try to rehab well and I got back to the slopes next october and didn’t really have any problems. I guess it’s different for everyone but I was back to normal in like 8-9 months

Waiting a minimum of 9 months before return to sport. There are various tests you can do to compare strength and fitness. A few for agility are:

-shuttle run

-t-test

Skiing is a lot of aneorbic work so the 50 yard shuttle run is a good test to try for fitness.

Single leg hop tests and quad strength are also both key.

I like to tell patients that they should feel stronger than before they ever got injured before returning to sport.

@KNEESOVERTOESGUY is def mandatory viewing on insta, i was told i would never bend my knee all the way for the rest of my life. after a month of his program i could do it and my knees feel better that before my injury. I can not stress it enough. Do his work out program and your knees will be bulletproof
