Oh, and what are good cat names?

Get a kitten they're all like

And you can train them so they wont destroy your house with piss. And if you treat them right they'll be mellow as hell.

i got both my cats as kittens from the shelter. theyve both been bawses and its not like having a dog or anything, just show them the litter box and food and they just chillllllllllll.

cats are generally chill in my experience. i have a foster cat that kind of hates all our other cats because he's older but he's still awesome. his name is yoda! he sleeps on my laptop all cute like while i'm typing, and then curls up to me at night, and is a playful little guy. adopting could be awesome! kittens sometimes can be little terrors, but you'll love em anyways.

Get a kitten. Adopting older cats can be a really bad idea depending on what kind of cat you want.

Older adopted cats often have behavior issues (peeing in corners, being scared of people) and have diseases sometimes. Kittens are awesome and the more you play with them the awesomer they will be when they grow up.

Also: DO NOT get its claws removed and DO let it be an outdoors cat.

they're usually jerks peeing on stuff because they're not fixed, live with other cats, or owners don't take care of them.

I adopted two shelter cats. One of them peed in various corners of my house (we even put litter boxes in the corners and she peed next to them) and also ended up having feline AIDS. The other cat is scared shitless of everything.

I did adopt a kitten recently though, and it is growing up to be a fucking boss.

Again: PLEASE don't declaw your cats

adopt. i adopted a cat earlier this summer an its by far the coolest cat ive ever known, named kiefer. but you run the risk of getting a sketchball cat from the pound.

i bought a kat wen dat piece wuz 7 year old now dat kat still be kicken it right beside me yo

This is jasper. He is the chillest cat ever.

He turns 2 this year, he ways 15 lbs and not a fuck is given every day.

go for the kitten, that way you can teach it things when it's still young and it will adapt faster to the new environment of your house compared to and older cat.

also i named my cat clyde if that gives you any ideas

Cats are supposed to walk on their toes... if they are declawed, the foremost part of their toes are taken off along with the claws, and they are forced to walk on the pads of their feet.. which is bad.

I would recommend you get an adult cat, as kittens adoption rates are so high and adult cats are quite low *Look on petfinder now, and look on petfinder in 6 months, and most of the adult cats you see now will still be there at the end of the winter... but almost none of the kittens you saw will remain up for adoption (maybe they are just chopped up for kitten veal though? I can't say for sure)* Also, it is alot easier to tell the personality of a cat when it is an adult, and you can see if you/your living arrangment/lifestyle will fit the cats personality well or not. I've gotten all of my cats from the shelter as adults (except one who showed up on our doorstep), and they've all been awesome, but I would just say go to a few different shelters and actually spend time in the play rooms or whatever with the cats... dont just look at it in a cage and say "I LEIK DAT ONE" like most people do.

just be prepared for accidentally adopting an asshole kitten that scratches everything in your entire life to fucking high heaven, meows for food constantly even though he isn't hungry, begs to be petted and when you do bites you, sleeps all the fucking time, is scared of the oven timer alarm, runs around chasing random shit in your apartment at 3 am like a drunken frat boy, and constantly hunts you like a prey animal....

And hunts your wife like no ones business.

*an. and ya this, also because a kitten will grow up with you and love you more than an adult. get a kitten from the shelter though

Most cats don't do well with constantly changing surroundings... you might wanna wait till you settle down to get a cat. Or get a dog.

get a cat that's a few years old and wound up in a shelter. I always feel bad for those ones, because it was clearly owned by some asshole who wanted a kitten then got rid of it once it was older. And unfortunately a lot of places (though it's decreasing!) put down animals that simply never get adopted.

Plus an older one will be trained and ready to go. Just bring it home and love it forever.

Kittens are fun, but aren't the fun little ball of fur for nearly as long as you hope. I remember when we got ours i pretty much woke up one day and suddenly she was a full grown cat. Best part about a kitten though is that you can force it to love you. We got the kitten and older cat simultaneously, and i played with the kitten relentlessly. As such, she's like a dog for me. Allows me to pick her up, rub her stomach, and other shit that she'll attack anyone else for trying.

I've suggested that name in probably every naming thread since I joined. It's been 6 years or so? You're the first person to ever acknowledge it.

My job is not yet completed until someone actually uses it, but, this is a big step for me. So for that, I thank you.

I makesed a decision.

Ill get a 4 or 5 year old cat, because i feel bad for unadopted cats.

his name: Meowth. or KnightWolf

I love the name, but if a girl asks, and i say my cats name is captain cuddles, embarassing, or adorable?

im probably getting a kitten on tuesday :) so stoked, since one of my cats became lost a few weeks ago :(
