Get $10 if you tell me what is the tree at Lehigh...

Do you have any pictures of the leaves? It might be a maple of some kind, but you should post a picture of the leaves.

The provided pictures make a positive identification impossible. I know my trees, and I can assure you with 100% certainty that it is NOT a willow. It is either a maple or an oak. My first instinct would be that it is a Red Maple, Acer rubrum.

yeah it's totally not a willow. I thought oak too, idk about maple cause i can't find a picture of it with bright red leaves, but it's still a possibility

dude if only you answered a little sooner. I decided on a weeping birch/Twisted youngii birch which Fushaw answered earlier today, he got the $10...put ++k to you for confirmation

I wouldn't be hasty going with this. He's definitely on the right track, but it might be any other cultivar of the European silver birch. There's maybe half a dozen or more and some of them look very similar from a distance. Also this subspecies isn't a very common one.

But almost definitely what would be called a 'weeping birch' in US, to find out better go get a leaf. First off if it has very pronounced lobes then it's the cutleaf variety. Probably a few other names for it.

That's about all I know about it. online is generally a terrible source for this stuff. Go to the library and get a good tree book.

Uhh shit. I took a tour there not a month ago, and I could have sworn the tour guide talked about that tree being really special or some shit. Can't remember the name. Maybe that was Lafayette actually... Idk

Thanks for all the insight guys. I went with weeping birch/twisted birch. Why you say? Cause I really wanted to know and I know what money can do.

hmmm i dont beleive you. i feel like there was a contest or something that was like $50 to whoever can say what type of tree this is. we wont be mad, is this the truth???

hahhaa no i'm not flipping profits. I visited Lehigh in the summer and I remember seeing this tree and how cool it looks with the building and such and I was talking to my uncle who went there and he said he didn't know so then I got really interested in it.
