Im going to apply to the georgian college ski resort operations program. I was just wondering if anyone is taking it and if they can give me any feedback about the program, also if anyone is taking the ski resort management course as well.

also if you live on res, how is it? and do all the bars card?

Yeah I'm in Georgian right now. there's actually been very little talk about the optional 3rd year for management. but I guess that's because I'm in first year. rez is nice, nothing like waking up 10 minutes before class. but if you try you can get a much cheaper place, althought you'll meet less people. All of the bars card, I think only one of them uses a scanner if they are suspicious of a fake, but I'm not sure. but overall, yeah the course is good, and you've got co-op so you won't end up as poor as a regular student when you're finished. because the course is a fairly new course the content is getting better year by year. But te course is basically a great way to meet and gain connections in the ski world. some of my teachers this year are the operation or general managers of glenn eden, snow valley, and georgian peaks. it's a really good program help you jump ahead in the ski world, you can become a manager much quicker because of your prior knowledge.

well it's a co-op course, we aren't in school in the winter - we work.

and the weed question - the rules say no weed in rez, but they really don't care/know, and people toke right infront of rez.

okay, so with co op, how does it work? are we bused out there?

carrots handbag cheese

you've gotta find a job. and a way to get there. Georgian college will help you a little with finding a job. and the job might help you find a way there (carpools or busses if they're available) but you can go anywhere in the world and live anywhere because you don't have to come back at anypoint between the end of nov. and april.

thats crazy, so we have like only a few classes? is it even worth living on rez?

carrots handbag cheese

It depends on your schedule.... Im pretty sure that u have 5-6 courses with 3 hrs of class / course and I think for SRO its broken up in to hour long blocks... I like livin in rez, unless u have a car and you wanna do the drive everyday i personally hate the drive up the 400 its a bit of a bitch! I got into SRO but i took a General BA with Laurentian Uni instead...

nah man the 1st semster is PACKED, because it's shorter than most 1st semesters we've got a minimum of 5 hours of classes every day. and the we're in school for the whole summer. it's worth living in rez for the first semester but there are issues with it because the course ends before the normal semester does. with the course you really only get 2 weeks off at the end of august. The rest of the time you're either at school or away on your co-op.

wow, only 2 weeks, thats tight. so got a shortened first semester, then we go to co op for the winter. then in spring and summer we have classes? is rez open is the summer?

carrots handbag cheese

when and how do you determine your co op? do they have a list you can choose from?

i m asking alot of questions, is there a web site that has more specific description of the course, or should i just get into contact with someone from georgian?

or do you not mind answering every random question i have?

carrots handbag cheese

nah I don't mind. Your co-op is fully paid, and will be a job that you find in the ski industry, as long as it relates to the ski industry. Georgian will try and bring representatives from resorts to the campus that you can meet with if you want.

Two websites you can look at for more info are

how competative is it to get into the course? do I need high marks or average marks?

also do you know the estimated salary range after exiting the program?

Im also curious as how a typical day would run, like class times, and also durning co op.

carrots handbag cheese

what course and grade did you need to get into the course? also how many otehr people are in the program?

Smoke 2 Joints

Yeah.....I am in that program right now....just getting ready to go on Co-op.....The program it self is pretty good...theres alot to be learned about all the outside operations stuff. I dont live in Res, but I hear its pretty slack as far as rules go!! And for the work load...if you manage your time properly, there is NO problem, getting it done! Its actually pretty easy. Andrew Elsdon is the best prof.

yeah man it's pretty easy, if you hand in all the assignments you'll pass. get 60% in highschool and you'll get in man. there will probably be like 30-40 people in the next years class.

This thursday Nov 20th SRO will be hostin the years most sickening party at Last class. So all you snow flake sluts better be there to get your huck on or else, um I'll snow you. Just be there so you can party with the SRO program and find out about our program for next year. Some of the most influencial people in the industry will be in addendence, like Bob inplanted hair folicul Harris residing from the lift hut in the hugific surroundings of GLEN EDEN. A truly sickening, extra and expecially flat, super crazy extra special ski experience. And now I'm done.

Im going to the open house on sat 22, form 10am-2pm. is there anything specific i should check out or someone i should talk to?

Smoke 2 Joints

Yeah......You can talk to Tyler or Derek Griffiths, as I am sure they will both be there. They are the class reps. Anything you need to know, I am sure they will supply a sufficient answer.

I have never been there so how will I find these people? ask around or will they be in a specific spot?

Smoke 2 Joints

^ok...now that I think about it...You are gonna want to talk to Anne Green...she should be there for sure. I am not sure if Tyler or Myself(Derek) will be there, Anne hasnt asked us to show up yet. There is a good chance that Tyler and I will be working elsewhere, but if we are there, look for us, we will be wearing Ski Resort Operations golf shirts. But if we arent there, try and find Anne for sure, she is the program director and can answer any questions you may have

Last night was the end of semester dinner for the SRO students from Georgian College, I must say that it went off without a hitch. A good night was had by all, and some good prizes and awards were given out to those that helped out throughout the year. A good night was had by all, and I hope everyone has a great winter out on there Co-ops!!!! Take it easy folks!

so this paid co-op, do we choose a resort of our choice, say tremblant or whistler. are accomidations covered and such?

You have to apply to a resort somewhere...hope they hire you, and then find a place to live. The school does not help you find a place. Getting paid for Co-op is great, but living on your own can be a very expensive way to go, especially if you want to go to Whislter or Tremblant.

If anyone has a question about this course you can email me at derek.griffiths@rogers.com and I can answer your questions for you! or just PM me on this site. Either way is good for me.

^^ Oh yeah......the school can tell you who is looking to hire, but doesnt find you a place to live.
