General Helicoil question.

Hey guys i tried looking for a like thread but found nothing.

So i picked up my skis from the shop today and found out that the technician helicoiled both of my fks heel pieces after one of them pulled out. I was just wondering how the helicons will hold up in the PARK as i have heard that they are more likely to pull out. So overall, are helicons stronger than a regular mount? Thanks!

Helicoils are usually stronger than normal holes, assuming the core isn't defective/rotten or something like that. I helicoiled one of the holes on my FR's and they've held up all season with no problems.

Helicoils work great but Quiver Killers/Binding Freedom work better.

The Hole is a little bit bigger, but you use epoxy to set the insert into place. Once theyre in no water can get to the core and pullouts are all but impossible. Plus you can remove bindings regularly without the issue of stripping the holes and weakening the core.

Think of it like the inserts in a snowboard, but stronger

i know Haha. I found quiver killers on google. Does that work better than helicoils? Or is quiver killer a brand of helicoil?

They do different things.

helicoil - a metal thread placed into a damaged ski when the binding screw pulls out. It creates a better anchor for the binding screw to hold on to.

Quiver Killer Inserts - metal inserts placed into your skis so you can move one set of bindings between two or more sets of skis

Cool. Thanks senpai.

Unrelated but If you ever wanna reinforce the holding strength of a binding hole( say if you’ve taken your bindings on and off the ski multiple times) try this.

get liquid loctite and baking soda. Throw in a tiny bit of baking soda, then put in a few drops of the loctite. Makes a super hard material. Do this until the entire hole is filled, then re-drill the hole. Boom. Brand new hole. Works just as well, if not better than wood.

this trick works like a charm.
