Gay Marriage

No, I'm not. I never said I was open to anybody's beliefs. They can believe what they want, and I have no problem with it. Like I said, people begin to lose their right in believing what they wish (or should, in my eyes), when these beliefs infringe upon others. Believe homosexuality is wrong. That's fine. Don't deny homosexuals the rights given to people of other sexual orientations, even people who are not citizens of this country because of this belief. Your domain of right to believe ends where others begin.

For me, things should be based on logic, and not faith. I have to admit I'm not a person of faith, be it in a deity or a person. I suppose from your point of view, my argument makes little sense, but the same is true from mine of yours.

Can you answer a question for me, just to humor me? What would you think of homosexuals if there was nothing in the Bible or in any religious teachings for or against it? I realize that's hard for you, or anybody, to do. I'm in no way asking you to recount your beliefs. But please, try.

No Im not, I was just making an example out of that, there is no place in the bible where it strictly states that marriage has to be between a man and a woman, anywhere. So how did that belief come to be, BECAUSE ITS HOW SOMEONE INTERPRETED IT!
 
gay marriage is a more complex issue than most people realize. there are actually quite a few legitimate non-faith based reasons to be against gay marriage, and also quite a few for gay marriage. to the OP: if you REALLLY dont know why gay marriage is yet legalized, holler at me. you can read my 11 page research paper haha

is it just me or is this guy the most prime example of - most homophobes are like that to cover up the fact that they are gay themselves and insecure of it
 
why would he go to that much effort to make NS think your gay? no one cares if your gay or not two_plank_life its not like its a bad thing being gays kinda awesome :)
 
i dont think hes mean, why would someone whos gay themselves do something as homophobic as trying to expose someone as gay so they get made fun of? and i dont care if your gay straight bi trans or a two headed zebra with polka dots, whatever u wanna do two_plank_life go ahead
 
so would one say that this gay marriage argument has to do with whether or not someone is born gay instead of it being a choice?
because if its a choice i would have to take the side of the anti gay marriage people. no offence, its just that i am more conservative generally and id only come to terms with it if its HAS to happen.
on another note if i were to see convincing research/studys proving that genetics have a role then i would gladly change my mind, and i feel like the majority of other people that are against it would just not have a problem with it either.
also i do have a few, actually, gay uncles and i know a few gay people, so dont think that i am homophobic or hateful. i dont really mind anyone being gay.. just dont go get married for anything less than the love you have with your partner

Gay people don't bother me. The gay as a culture thing does kind of bother me. Makes it much easier for people to see it as a choice.

If being gay isn't a choice, you'd think that people would all be the same. Not like everyone is the same, everyone is different. I'm saying people would be the same gay or straight.

Seems like a massive percentage of gay people are the oh hai, i have a lisp and a limp wrist type people. Liking guys doesn't make you a girl with speech problems.
 
yeah i think that same way, it always made me curious why A.) gay people act feminine to try to attract men who are gay, not straight men and B.) the biological aspects of it all just doesn't seem possible to me for it to be "real".
and getting any farther into the debate would make me feel like im intruding on other peoples lives when it really doesnt effect mine at all. and when you really think about it, everyone should be entitled to a happy life, so just do whatever you want i guess.
 
I hear you. I thin some of it can be put with the stereotype thing. Straight people sometimes try extra hard to be the manly man type person, where gay people, well you're already gay so whatever.

I just feel like the majority are over doing it hardcore. I don't really get gay as a culture
 
well I totally agree with you, but it just seems like a way to not step on anyones toes. Although it is incredibly redundant.
 
The biological aspects of it don't make sense? I disagree wholeheartedly. Plenty of animals demonstrate homosexuality, or, more commonly, bisexuality.

As many people have said in this thread, it's not really whether or not being gay is a 'choice', but rather whether it's genetically determined more at birth or by life events. Think about it. Gay people have been oppressed for about 2000 years now. That's not nearly enough to eliminate something from the gene pool. Even if it were, since they were so oppressed, many people who wouldn't come out because it would have cost them their lives lived a straight life, thus likely passing on their genes. Finally, today, it is no longer biologically impossible for two men to have a child containing both their genes. It's expensive, but it's possible to have In Vitro fertilization using two of their sperm, assuming one is an X chromosome, and have a willing woman become pregnant with it.
 
I don't know the statistics, but I would not be at all surprised to find out that fewer homosexual marriages end in divorce percentage-wise than heterosexual ones. As others have stated in this thread, the sanctity of marriage is all but lost as it is. The current overall divorce rate in the US is approximately 50% of married couples.
 
why do people care whether gays can generate a child biologically when considering Flgay marriage? there are plenty of straight couples that don't have children at all.
 
more importantly, why does anyone give any shits at all? what two guys or two girls do in their bedroom affects you in no way, so why pretend it does. It's not like saying thy can get married will cause gays to run around ruining hetero marriages. If anything, radical gays will calm down.

Because i say it wrong doesnt not mean im ignorant. Thats my belief. Hitler believed that removing all jews from europe was right. If i say its wrong to be like hitler, does that mean im ignorant. I understand that these are two different things but hey. I think it should be voted on if the people vote to make gay marriage illegal the it should be illegal. Bo be gay else were.
