Does anyone have any info on the Garibaldi at Squamish project they are talking about putting up at brohm ridge?

Ive done a little bit of reading into it and it looks like they want to be up and running for 2016-17 season which isnt too far off.

It would be kinda nice to have a resort to compete with whistler blackcomb, bring seasons pass prices down and give people another resort option.

heres the master plan-

gunna have to do some touring up there this winter to see what that area is all about. i'd love to hear what other people know about it.

I would be stoked on more competition for the ski market as well as growing the market and further becoming an international hotspot for skiing. There is quite a lot of local resistance to the project though as it is mainly seen as a condo development/ land grab. The resort is often criticized for not being high enough in elevation to have good snow. I think it will have worse snow conditions than Whistler...but that isn't saying much as Whistler arguably has some of the best snow conditions in the world. I would like to throw my full support behind the plan, but reading the materials and press releases it does seem like a major condo project more than a ski resort.

If you also look at the history they tried to get this going once before in the 70's but the businessmen behind it were all a bunch of shady dudes from LA or something. I'm not sure how the backing of the project changed hands, but this previous image still taints the new project.

Overall I'd like to see it re-formatted slightly, which I think is happening with part of the EAO process. Could be really really sweet though!
