Ok, so this has been bothering me for some time. What the hell does the gangsta image have to do with skiing whatsoever? Everytime I go into the park I see about 20 teenyboppers dressed in oversized hoodies, bandannas, and flat brimmed sideways backward hats trying to talk like their favorite rapper that they saw on mtv last night. My question is why?? What does this have to do with skiing?? These are rich suburban white kids who are on a ski hill!! It just doesnt make any sense to me, maybe I'm just getting too old but it seems like there is a lot of confusion on the slopes these days.
 
Music has a HUGE influence on fashion. And the most popular music out there in freeskiing is rap and hip-hop, therefore you will continue to see those "gangsta rich suburban white kids" on the hill.

I say who gives a fuck. Wear what you want, ski how you want, and don't complain about others styles of skiing or fashion. This is after all FREEskiing!!
 
I agree it's stupid if that's your lifestyle but mostly it's just some friends joking around. If you actually throw up gang signs and say "jea jea nigga" all the time, though...I feel sorry for you. But that's just me, if you're having fun go out there and screw around all you want.
 
eh i have no issue with what people wear, just makes it more interesting. The "Gangsta Image" often involves bright colours and cool patterns and shit, so i think it looks good. If its really that big an issue for you, then what about all the kids that dont surf or skateboard wearing billabong etc?

Anyway, more often than not their skiing speaks for itself. 
 
like when you get caught in an avalanche and the ski patroller says "i'm not gonna risk my life for that guy coz he's a douche and his life has no meaning"

who cares what other people do, just live and let live, people are gonna do what they want so it is stupid for you to hate on them for it
 
actually on second thought, I think that all mountains should have a dress code and image code and if someone is not acting or dressing accordingly then they should be killed by firing squad in front of everyone on the mountain to dissuade other people from not conforming
 
dont waste ur time hatin on other kids style, worry about the progression of skiing and worry about your own style. kids dress the way they wanna dress, who are you to tell them thats not a style to be associated with skiing. get over the drama and ski man, enough with the shit talking and style dissing that happens on ns.
 
Since when did baggy cloths = "gangsta"? Last time i check baggy cloths = comfy.
 
I dont really care as long as they are not faggots to other people and they have a good time skiing. The thing i hate most is when people ski just to look cool and not for fun.
 
i agree. I think all skiers should wear Spyder fitted clothing on hill and fur jackets and designer jeans off hill. I mean we are all the same right? Just a bunch of rich, suburban white kids right?
 
i say wear what ever is comfortable.

i dont mind my baggy clothes on the hill. but sometimes ill wear my regular snowpants just because that is what i am feeling that day.

dont rant about how people look. your just judging. what if i said i hated all people who wore big red jackets with white crosses on the back? like thats judging. my dad is a patroler and i love him to death, one of the raddest patrolers ive ever seen.

stop judging and worrying about what people wear and dont worry about anything period. just ski and have fun.
 
u r a noob...i wear my gangsta style and big coat and pants but not like XXXXXXXXXL just big enough and idc what people say its hell of a lot more comfortable then regular size snowpantsplus its looks way sicker
 
most kids wear baggy clothes but they dont act like theyre seriously gangster. wen they actually act like theyre gangster thats wen its a problem
 
More like they would just recover your body, they would be slow to the scene if they didnt actually see it and they would have no idea where you are.
 
i wear baggy ski clothes because i look the look waaay better then normal tight fitted ski clothes. and baggier=warmer.
 
the only gagsta thing i wear is a jersey and thats just because otherwise id have a black hoodie and black pants and the color mixes is up
 
i wear baggy pants and jackets thats because i dont like having my outerwear fit like tights and im my opinion something that is a little bit baggier then perfect fitted looks ok, so let people wear what they want and just chill

Our youth culture enjoys a celbration of urban life, involving music, clothing, and style. Just because people are of one race or another doesnt mean that they cant be involved in that. The styles of skiing reflects the cultural movements associated with the music that those people like.

I think its amazing that our styles reflect something as fluid and creative as music, and shows how cool our sport really is. If you listen to hip hop, then you probably think that baggy is whats good, and if you listen to alternative rock, that will also reflect in how you dress for skiing.

Its just like normal clothing, but for a different application. Cultural followings affect it, and change it.

Freedom of expression yo, its tight.
