Gandalf or Dumbledore?

sauron doesn't actually have powers, aside from being able to see everything, but he has a huge fuckin army with lots of crossbows and swords and shit.

voldemort has powers and an army of guidos with powers.

pretty sure voldemort wins here.

sauron was beat with it on once before, all it took was his finger getting cut off, by a man. voldemort could blow off his hand from a mile away.

If any of you spooks had bothered to read the books you would know that dumbledore would win if they really went head to toe. The shit he does is just so damn badass.
Sure gandolf can withstand fire, speak to daemons, break shit, and other assorted badassness, but dumbledore can do all that shit too plus can go from point a to point b in zero seconds flat, gandolf needs a fucking horse, HERRO!
plus dumbledore has a O.G. Obi One Kanobi mindset which just makes him all the more badass then gandolf, who pardon my french is a pompus self centered ass wipe.

You completely neglected the fact that Gandalf can comeback to life as a more badass person... thus Gandalf wins.

Dumbledore has a dumbass mindset (getting killed by a less powerful wizard), whereas Gandalf completely saves his entire world from Saurons fury.

oh you're kidding

Seriously, its only the young shits that only think that dumbledore could win. Wonder why? Show some respect and read up

DUMBLEDORE hands down! Were talking about the greatest wizard in the world here guys. Here is a good point: Dumbledore > Voldemort > Gandalf

Dumbledore is just more humble and modest about his powers

Gandalf is a Maiar (aka agent of the Gods sent to save humanity) and Gandalf achieves his goal and eventually saves middle earth from Sauron.

Also, he fought and slayed the balrog known as Durin's Bane in a battle which took 2 days and 2 nights. 48 hours of constant fighting to destroy an agent of darkness (a corrupted Maiar (Gandalf is a Maiar) who has been alive for thousands and thousands of years).

Gandalf summoned fire and lightning to keep the 9 Nazgul at bay while he was traveling with Frodo, Aragorn, and company at weathertop.

Gandalf kills hundreds of orcs with flaming tree trunks in the mines of Moria and uses magic to grow to almost 3 times his normal size.

Gandalf is immortal. Dumbledore is not.

Gandalf is also the wisest person in all the Earth besides Eru, the supreme god that instructed Gandalf to purge middle earth of evil after teh betrayal of Sarumon.

And last but not least, Gandalf's power in middle earth is nothing compared to what he can do. He has a very limited power while he is helping the people of middle earth destroy Sauron so that the Ainur don't become crutches for humanity whenever they need aid. Outside of middle earth, Gandalf is essentially a god and has all the powers in the world. Dumbledore dies and is no longer a threat to Voldemort. Gandalf is ALWAYS a threat seeing how he can't die and how he will keep coming back until his job is finished.

What are you talking about?

Sauron had an arsenal powers. Because of his association with fire, he was able to manipulate fire, make volcanoes erupt, bring meteors down from the sky and shroud himself in fire - hot enough to burn to death anything that came near him. With his mace, he was strong enough to take out a whole legion of soldiers with a single swing. He was able to shape shift and take the form of any being he pleased. Also, he could alter the physical world around himself with a sheer thought.

He was the most powerful sorcerer of any Maiar. However, his greatest power was his cunning, manipulation and deception. He was able to continually trick the elves about his true intentions, which is a difficult feat seeing that the elves are the wisest beings in middle-earth.

This.

And during the LoTR era, most of Sauron's power was instilled in the Ring. If he were to get a hold of the ring, he would destroy all humanity in Middle Earth and have control over everything, person, being, etc in all the lands.

Sauron didn't have a physical form during the LoTR era and stayed hidden up in the tower of Barad-dur for the most part and was in essence, the embodiment of hatred, malice, and all evil.

Not your typical bad guy...

Actually, to get technical, this isn't entirely true. Gandalf was the wisest of the Maiar, a reason Saruman was envious of him, but he wasn't the wisest of all Ainur, the Valar were, especially Manwe, Melkor, Varda and Aule.

Also, Eru Iluvatar didn't send Gandalf to middle-earth, the Valar did. Eru never got involved in the affairs of Arda(Earth), leaving it to the Valar to shape. The only time Eru got involved was to end Numenor, because the Manwe asked for his assistance.

OK, it's time to settle this. Asides from the fact that Dumbledore is a genius and master at spells, he has the ELDER WAND, he CAN'T lose!

Dumbledore would work gandalf for sure.

Gandalf can't die, though.

Really it's an unfair comparison, a human vs. an immortal spirit god who isn't from Middle Earth. I think it's a testament to Dumbledore's power that he is even compared to Gandalf at all, though, to be fair, Gandalf's power is greatly restricted when he comes to Middle Earth. In the end it's like saying who wins: Athena or Hercules/Achilles. Just not a fair comparison.

I'm reading the LOTR trilogy right now and it's clear that Gandalf would totally rape Dumblefuck.

Gandalf would fuck shit up. He has a sword as well, and killed a fucking balrog... Dumblegay hit killed by a stupid albino douchebag with greasy hair

Gandalf.

But isnt the actor that pays Gandalf the ones thats gay? could of swore I saw him on Colbert and they talked about that.

gonna go full nerd here but it depends on whether its the physical, middle earth dwelling gandalf or the valinor dwelling, maiar named olorin. in crossing from valinor into middle earth it seems all the wizards lost a large degree of power. gandalf as a powerful leader and tactician against evil was much more talented than dumbledore, who managed to let voldemort rise to power, right under his nose, on two separate occasions.

gandalf was plucked from valinor, against his will (like bilbo), and required by the gods (the valar) to fight an enemy that would always be more powerful than himself, by the gods own intention. his assignment was to win without overpowering the enemy, and by cunning, diplomacy, inspiration and leadership he came out on top. way more badass than dumbledore in that way.

so in a duel, dumbledore wins every time except if the fight took place in valinor, then he wouldn't have a chance. but gandalf is still way more badass because of his wisdom.

Isn't this pretty similar to what Dumbledore does when he figures out about the horcruxes, teaches Harry about them so Harry can destroy them, and then lets himself be killed by Snape so Voldemort can't get control of the Elder wand and become virtually invincible before Harry has time to destroy all the horcruxes?

dumbledore definitely was crafty, but he was killed (albeit on purpose) by wizards of lesser power in order to defeat a wizard of roughly equal power. sauron also controlled a much larger fighting force in mordor, which, due in large part to gandalf's leadership, was kept at bay for many years. when dumbledore dies, the enemy is allowed to take over, and in many ways that counts as a loss in my mind.

gandalf was killed by exhaustion after defeating his equal in power in the balrog. however, when he returns, even with slightly more power, he still pails in comparison to the might of sauron comanding all of mordor and the nazgul. gandalf uses more cunning planning and leadership to defeat sauron, who is a greater enemy than voldemort.

so if sauron > voldemort, which is a point that i don't think would be hard to make, then gandalf must be greater than dumbledore

its apples to oranges, but the scale in tolkein's books is just so much more epic than in harry potter. personal preference

dumbledork was what 150 years old?

gandalf is 2021 years old at the end of ROTK

pretty sure gandalf wins

shows how much you know about LOTR. it's not a trilogy. it's a single book split into 3. also it was named book of the 20th century by a few groups.

Are you fucking kidding me? Gandalf by miles. Harry potter was great but you're probably still in middle school if you think dumbledore was better.

When the Valar sent the Maiar to Middle-earth, effectively becoming Istari, they were prohibited to use their full power; for they were there to aid people of Middle-earth, not fight the war(s) for them.
