Galifianakis Between Two Ferns w/ Obama

Agreed. Yea he has to do publicity and what not and appear on shows, etc, but this is just stupid of him. People like this guy for his personality, not what he has actually done. Pisses me off so much. He could be one of the top 10 worst presidents of all time, and people love this guy becuase he is "cool" and the first minority president. Cant wait for 2016.

What's wrong with liking someone for having a good personality lol? Should we all dislike him personalyl because we disagree with his political views?

Also it shouldn't surprise you that if people like someone, they are less likely to be critical against them, just look at doctor malpractice suits.

in this thread:

overpriviledged white kids who listen to and regurgitate what rich daddy says at the dinner table about how Obama is such a terrible president.

Maybe I'm missing it up here since most of my news comes from the CBC (what would be considered socialist media in the States), but what exactly has Obama done (or not done) to make him one of the worst presidents ever?

He has actually done a lot. In particular he has a done a lot to try and benefit our generation, ironically something that people our age seemingly do not care about.
http://whattheheckhasobamadonesofar.com/

But at the same time has done some things that I personally do not like... Overall I am pretty indifferent towards him, although he isn't nearly as bad as people make him out to be.

vote for candidate -> gets elected -> hate on him...vote for candidate -> gets elected -> hate on him...

vote for candidate -> gets elected -> hate on him...

every 4/8 years, same thing, over and over.

obama is great, and if you dont think he is great, go back to bush, or clinton, the saxophone playing womaniser.

I don't care if you hate obama, you gotta admit that b-rock is the man for doing this, sure some of it was written for him to say, but the fact hes actually doing this is awesome. No republican president would go on between two ferns thats for damn sure.

Jesus christ, are you kidding me? You sound like a 60 year old republican from texas.

For damn sure? You can't say that because there hasn't been a republican pres while the show has existed. So, not for damn sure actually. And why would that be a bad thing that a president wouldn't go on a comedy show? His job is to run the country not make us laugh. Obama being "cool" is him appealing to the stupid feel-good masses who will continue to vote for the cool, hip president in the future. Fuck Obama

You think mccain or bush would've gone on that show? Dude, I know you're having some issues with delusion but lets be real here. He's appealing the the public, please tell me a president that HASNT done that before.

I wonder which Republican candidate he thinks will save the world from Obama and liberals tyranny

I just think its refreshing to see a president finally getting with the times, past presidents have done this kinda shit just it wasn't as radical because society in general has become more radical.

No, going on jimmy fallon, taking funny photos, appearing on two ferns, etc do not make him a "good" president but it connects him with the younger generation, which is exactly what he wants. This kinda video makes people (including myself) go "damn this guy is chill" or "this guy makes me laugh" or whatever. Whats so wrong about the president trying to appeal to the public?

It gets him votes for the wrong reasons.....kind of like how his race did....

and if ANYBODY thinks that's racist, you're stupid...

you aren't supposed to be president because you're "cool"

Isn' that how EVERY presidential election has been for at least 50 years? Sure people care about policies but campaigning is appealing to the public to get votes, thats the whole point and if you think otherwise you're delusional.

Right, because no other president or presidential candidate has ever done this before...

You do know what political campaigns are, don't you?

Yeah I agree with this. Policy has been pretty much removed from politics. Now all that matters is which side you associate with and whether or not you look good on tv. Being a minority helps a shit ton too.

Nor should they vote for a presidential candidate based on what gender they are, what race they are, what religion they are, how attractive they are, how wealthy they are, how personable they are, or how easy they are to relate to, but it isn't going to stop people from doing so.

This is how political campaigns work. President's have been doing it as long as there has been a presidential election, acting like Obama is the first one to do so is stupid.

You forgot it also takes at least 10 million dollars to even be consider a candidate. THAT is the most fucked part IMO.

Actually it has nothing to do with how "chill" he is, it entirely has to do with how people can connect with him. If people can connect with him, then there is an assumption that there is a mutual understanding between us, in that if I connect with him he in turn connects with me, ergo he understands me and can represent me accordingly.

This shouldn't surprise you, this is a very intrinsic human behavior, and it shouldn't be frowned upon. A more personal example could be the relationship you have with your doctor, if he has great bedside manner, if you "like him", you will trust his decisions more, because you truly believe he has your best interests at heart. In politics in particular, trust is a very important element.

Are you fucking kidding me right now?

So you are telling me, trust is useless, that trusting your doctor, trusting your politician, these are useless traits and we should ignore them? Because there is a direct correlation between connecting/understanding someone and trusting them.

God you're an idiot.

Sorry, that wasn't directed at you specifically. More generally for the people saying how much they hate Obama for doing this kind of thing.

I don't think this is a generational thing. This has been going on for decades, at least. Look at the Kennedy vs. Nixon election. People who listened to the two debate on the radio thought Nixon won, people who watched it on T.V. thought Kennedy won because he wore make up, was more attractive, and generally presented himself better than Nixon. Even Andrew Jackson did similar stuff to get elected. Talking about how he was the people's president, how he was just a regular guy who liked fighting Indians, just like you, and wasn't at all like the aristocrats who controlled Washington. Pretty much the same thing W. Bush did in his election against Kerry, emphasizing how much easier he was to relate to than Kerry, who is much less personable.

Elections have never been just about politics and who understands the issues better, because most people voting don't understand the issues that well themselves, and so are easily swayed by more superficial things.

if any other president did a fucking sketch comedy video like this, they would be fucking IMPALED by the media..

imagine if bush did this

cannot wait for this guy to gtfo the white house

Pretty sure it was the president who asked the people behind between two ferns to go on and promote obamacare because its a show that appeals to a younger demographic which is what he is aiming for

Did you not read my post? How I boded the word trust and related it to how well you connect with someone? Do you not realize how even yes humor, if you think someone is funny, makes you feel connected with him?

Do you not see how this is a valuable attribute to have in your elected leader who is supposed to represent you?

The doctor example wasn't meant to be a analogous relationship to your politician. It was supposed to make you understand how important it is to trust someone who is supposed to have your best interests at heart.

I do not normally agree with you, but this rings true. Media has turned voting into a popularity contest based on on personality rather than platform. People would rather vote for a man/woman because they can "connect" on an emotional level because the media has created the idea that this is important.
