Yo, coming to SLC for the northern winter. Planning on skiing Snowbird with some buddies. What's the deal with the season pass, worth shelling out an extra $130 for the tram pass or just do chairlift only?Have buddies who are planning to ski parkcity so think they're looking for accom at "somthing" junction. Know it's about 26mi to Snowbird so what's the deal with getting there busses etc? Hitching? Also is it possible to buy a night time only PC pass?
Last thing FWT what is usual cost of entry fee etc?Anyone in SLC area planning on doing the Crested Bute, Telluride or Kirkwood comps?
Chur chur.

you're talking about kimball junction, you won't be able to get to snowbird without a car from there. fwt is $135 for qualifiers plus $90 if you make semis.

Ahh yes that's the one. What options are there if I don't have a car, only have 5-6 weeks due to uni and internships...FWT usually fills up pretty quick too eh?

you've got about 5 minutes to register. snowbird's about the most popular one. if you have a car that'll be close to an hour to any of the SLC resorts, 15 minutes or less to anything PC.

Any info on weather or not the tram pass is needed? Also if I have buddies who want to ski PC is there a location that would be suitable for accommodation, obviously Kimble Junction is too far from Snowbird, and cottonwood heights etc are too far from PC is there anything else?

just have them find something in slc valley. equal distance to PC and Snowbird from the city. maybe something in sugar house which is close to 215 belt route that goes to i-80 (PC) or 6200 s. (snowbird)

Bo_bot thanks for the help.
Phreshy, thanks for the words of wisdom. Typical response from someone who owns 5 pairs of skis I guess... It some ways I agree with you, but when your traveling from New Zealand and planning on doing 4 events the difference between a $90 entry and a $150 entry adds up when you factor in exchange rate and such. Once again great advice, I'll hastily withdraw from all the comps I've done in the past.On a similar note, if your going to be an asshole, you dont belong in the ski community.

hopefully what he means is, freeride comps are really expensive. and sometimes its better to shred pow for no additional cost than to pay like 300 bucks to ski icy moguls and rocks. not that I haven't done so many times.and there is definitely room for everyone in freeride comps.

quick question for others.

if i was to stay in PC how far away is alta and snowbird and stuff.

stoked to hear your coming out to utah! such a dope spot to be! I would recommend looking for a place in the foothills/sugarhouse area. great spot to live, tons and tons of young folks in the area and everyone shreds. 20 minutes or less to both park city and snowbird from there too. also there are busses that run, but im not super familiar with that. I know there are solid park n rides at the bottom of LCC and BCC. your gonnna love it here.

yeah freeride comps are fucking expensive but a lot of fun. it sucks being 18 and too old for the jr comps.

i'm working in utah and living in/near slc. hopefully i have time to ski a bunch.

did mean to offend you, obviously you know what you are doin if you are comin a long ways and staying for a while. I'm just saying that they are very expensive especially when entering 4 of them and prices have probably not been released yet. Colston put it well that there are great alternatives to comps, you may not get the spotlight, but we ski because we love the sport. Thats quite the claim to say someone doesnt belong in the skiing community...especially from one post at 4 in the morning

quick to backtrack on those pretty rude comments at the start hey? im sorry but that is one of the dumbest and most short sighted things you could have said in the first post man. why would you ever turn someone away from giving more money into a field that could possibly benefit you? i used to work on the fwt and its one of the most family oriented tours out there, i fully agree with OP on the whole (paraphrasing here) "jackasses don't belong in the ski community". get off of your high horse and welcome a fresh face.

wow bob_dole!

and dont forget your lift ticket! those arent included in the price of the comp, i think you get like 50 dollar discount ticket or something.
