Full tilt issues

So I went to get the classics, but the boot fitter I was at,didn't have them in my size. So I ended up with the twall's. This boot fitter has an extremely good reputation and is well known through out the ski community. Bottom line is, that I am getting pain on the side of my foot. I skied a few days on them, and they were unbearable. The pain on the side of my foot (at the widest part) is insane! I almost had tears in my eyes after a few runs. I brought them back, they punched out the side a little, and ground out the shell a little. I tried them again yesterday, and while its a tad bit better. I am still getting pain on the side of my foot. I can't bring them back to the same boot fitter because I don't live in Colorado. Any suggestions? They are sized correctly, but I guess the shape of the side of my foot doesn't agree with the shape of the shell. Any help would be much appreciated.

Full Tilts have a fairly narrow last of 99mm so I would try out Salomon SPKs to avoid the pain in the sides of your feet. Depending on the size you have I might be willing to trade you my brand new SPKs for your FTs

How much have you tightened the forward most buckle? As far as I'm aware, that buckle doesn't do a hell of a lot. So just do it it, but don't tighten it at all.

Did you get footbeds? Without footbeds, your foot (which might normally look good in a shell fit) is free to flex and slide outwards and bang into the outside of the shell. Without a footbed, your foot can go through all sorts of problematic movements during skiing that you do not feel in the shop.

Get a footbed in there asap if you don't have one already. Also, boot fitting takes a while, its trial and error. You generally get multiple punches over time not just one.

For the record, I won't punch your boots if you don't have a footbed set up, so get on that pronto.

Since Full Tilts don't come with foot beds, they just threw in some new dalbello foot beds. I did not get custom foot beds if that's what your referring to. The thing is that the boots feel great aside from this pain on the side of my feet, (more so on the left side). I don't have any foot movement in them. Very upset, and I am going Utah in a week and half, so I need get this corrected.

That's the thing- it won't feel like movement in the boot. We're talking about millimeters of shifting. This boot might be the perfect shell for you, but if your foot is not properly supported then your foot will naturally sit a bit out of alignment and cause your foot pain right exactly where your feeling it. Probably the most common boot issue- 5th met pain cause by lateral shearing

This. I try to put footbeds in every boot I sell and I demonstrate it with my hand. Try this and it'll make sense.

Put your hand flat on a table, and simply bend your fingers a little so there's an arch. That's your foot, it has an arch.

Now when you weight that arch it collapses, so now move your fingers so they're straight. See how your fingers are longer. Those are your toes going into the front of the liner.

Now push down a little on the table, and the side of your hands/palms just expanded. That's your foot being weighted and the sides of your feet pushing against the liner and boot.

So even if your heat mold a liner it won't help when you need a footbed. Heat molding only helps shorten the break-in period.

Sparknotes: In any boot you buy, your going to get no arch support. No boot company gives your an arch support. Get a footbed and most of the time of your problems/pains will be solved.

Thanks to the both of you, two of the best responses I have received so far. Tomorrow I have an appointment for custom foot beds. Your description makes total sense now. Thanks a ton!

I feel like I had this problem when I first got my FTs b/c i didn't get footbeds but it is something my foot eventually adjusted.

If you guys could look at my last thread I have a few FT questions on my Booters. Thanks a bunch.
