Fucked up shit at my school

Hypersensitivity fail.

Makes you wonder how Gilbert Gottfried is still alive after what he did though. How long until 9/11 is finally funny like AIDS?

Bullshit they didnt know the negative connotation! Honestly, if youre a senior in highschool you cant be that stupid.

Yeah, it seems so offensive. I mean really, since these kids were clearly disrespecting the families that were killed in the tragedy you should be making a newschoolers thread titled "Fucked up shit at my school".

This was so dumb that I am banning you for the day, ostensibly for being a hater, but really, that was just incredibly stupid.

So im the only one who thinks this was fucked up? A group of Arab Americans walking around with 911 on their backs? They knew what they were doing.

you can pull the "youre too sensitive" card all you want but this was a joke in bad taste, and waay too soon. they knew what they were doing, and they can find a different way to get attention

Total number killed in attacks: 2,819

Number of firefighters and paramedics killed: 343

Number of NYPD officers: 23

Number of Port Authority police officers: 37

I think there is a damn good reason to be sensitive.

Aids isn't funny, holocaust isn't funny, and 9/11 isn't funny. Peoples loved ones died and that is nothing to joke about.

this,

i hate to admit it but this is probably the only reason it went over as offensive.

if white, all american kids had worn them i bet it would have got positive recognition and the 'cant bring us down' theme would have gone over well.

So it's not OK for Arab-Americans to do it, but if some white kids did you think it would go over well? You've god to be fucking kidding me. It doesn't matter the color of their skin or religious background it was done in very bad taste

Im pretty sure most of NS lol'd at that south park episode about aids and nobody says anything when people make the "im HIV positive" joke, which is quite hypocritical considering that millions of people have died of aids, compared to the few thousand in 9/11.

and they are all funny, i laugh at aids jokes, holocaust jokes (and im jewish), and 9/11 jokes. stop being so sensitive.

-911 = terrorist attack

-Many Arab people have been connected with terrorist groups

...and youre telling me that the fact that the kids who wore 911 sweatshirts were Arab doesnt make it seem worse? hmm

i like to see that youre not racist, and i agree that skin color isnt something to discriminate for,, but in this situation it makes a difference. seriously, , think about it

A building got destroyed, it was tragic, we get it. Can we just move on now? There are and have been much worse tragedies in the world so get over yourself.

It's just a hoodie.

no. if white kids had worn shirts making a joke out of thousands of people dying in a horrific tragedy they would still be reprimanded.

and once again anyone going with "people are too sensitive" fuck you. id love to see how you'd react if you knew someone who died on 9/11 and some loser looking for attention wore a shirt making a joke out of it. grow up. you can think of another way to get your kicks. "wah wah free speech" give me a break

i dont even see how it was a Joke, it seemed like a legit message they were trying to send.

being that we can fight through the hardship of the 911 attack: "you can't bring us down"

looking through the article youre right it would be hard to prove that it was a joke. but if i had to guess, i mean..

Could it not signify the fact that they oppose what happened on 11/9 by saying that you may have taken our buildings and the lives of our people, but "you cant bring us down" we will be up and ready to kick your arse if you try do it again? Thats how i read into it.

this.

and i am not buying into the fact that these kids didn't know how offensive the message was. it's ridiculous that they aren't getting any punishment for it.

yeah: if it was meant as a joke then it is definately offside, but as a message of strength and unity [especially since they were arab-americans] i think its alright

Exactly. There's free speech and then there is being downright offensive. Bad stuff is usually 'funny' until it happens to you. If you knew someone with AIDS, or someone who had passed away from AIDS, you wouldn't have been laughing at that South Park episode.

Those sweatshirts may not bother most people now a days, but to the few people that knew someone who was killed, it is disgustingly offensive to them.

No, you can't please everyone and rid the world of horrible things, obviously. There are always going to be shows and songs making fun of 9/11, the Holocaust, slavery, etc. But you can turn off the shows/songs or choose not to see or listen to them at all. When a kid is sitting in a classroom with a sweatshirt like these kids had on, it's very distracting, even more so if you were affected by it. You can't turn away from shit like that, especially in a high school.

fuck off if you ban people for talking minor shit and then post that, that is definitely more offensive than some shit people get banned for
