FUCK YOU STRATTON

i ski at stratton almost everyday and as the season winds down me, and my friends look forward to one thing, hitting the US Open jumps. It's like a tradition hitting those jumps and now someone at Stratton decided to be a little bitch and close the sunbowl for the rest of the year.
This freakin sucks. i can't even express how angry i am, first they take the park of suntanner and now this. dont get me wrong the park has been good all year and they've done a good job keeping everything in good shape.
so for all the people who were excited about hitting the Open park dont get your hopes up (ya, im being negative).

word man. I'm a local and although I didn't have any plans on hitting the course (it's admittedly a bit over my head) I feel you. It's really discouraging because you realize everything is so financially driven and the first thing that's neglected is the freestyle demographic. I really wish they kept suntanner too. that park was sooo sick last year. now the most hits you can get in a run are 4 or 5 unless you cut through the woods etc. and while I have been stoked on the parks this year (and they're better than a lot of east coast mountains) I think they could do a better job with the setting up of and adding more urban style boxes/rails.

yeahhit sucksi was planning on a trip to go up to stratton for 2 days and session the us open jumps, but now there's no point...so yesFUCK YOU STRATTON

i feel you. stratton has money, and if they used it for other things besides condos that dont sell maybe people would respect them more. i like stratton but sometimes its just not a friendly enough environment, like carinthia at snow.
oh well, a little birdie told me a session is going down sometime on one of the jumps so be there, and hiking the pipe is a must.

The bottom line is that Stratton does not want the freestyle demographic to be prevalent at the hill. They don't want the rich people to get all flipped out because of all the skiers/boarders in the park. I really think that after what Mt Snow did at Corinthia Stratton had no intentions of competing with Mt Snow, and just decided to not cater to skiers/boarders at all.
The big question is: What will Stratton do next year? Will they amp up the parks and ty to compete with Snow or just give up?
Unfortunately, I think it will be the later.

BTW, Cole, I've skied with you a few times. I'm one of Jason's good friends, I go to school with him.

yep stratton is corporate skiing all the way. nothing we can do really though. but sick on the session. I definitely wanted to shred the pipe some. I haven't hit one in sooo long, but I love pipe. I was kinda wondering thinking about hiking it and wondering how uptight they'd be about it...but it seems like it would be worth it at this point in the season.

go for it. they dont care from what i understand. i hiked the 1st slope jump on the last day of skiing last year when the sunbowl was closed and a patrol skied down and didnt care at all

i ski at stratton a lot to and over the years the parks have gotten better but smaller and now gettin worse. i think that they are moving towards the rich people scene vs mt snow and the park. this year the park is ok nothin special i mean its well built but way to small. its bullshit how they wont build suntanner ill give it tho its a great cruisin run now but so much better off as a park. also how they keep so many fucking sick features jsut on teh grass or watever like put out ur fucken rails and stuff

^^ for sure. I'd love to see a long flowing run like a slopestyle instead of jumps and then two sets of parallel rails. I'd love to be able to hit all the rails without having to choose. and it sucks at tyrollean (sp?) where it's either jumps or rails unless you do some fancy work and potentially cut people/get cut off.

i was up at stratton a couple weeks ago for the first time in a long time. they have good skiing but there is defiantly something weird about that mountain. it doesnt have a good vibe at all. i agree that it is beginning to cater more towards rich yuppies than locals.

beginning? stratton has been that way for a while, unless you drive a hummah and are filthy rich, they really don't want your buisness. UP scale resort for low scale personalities.

Imagine if they built up the sun bowl with all parks, just like the carinthia face.I think that would be dope and I bet it would bring alot of good business to stratton

i was planning on going and had really no thought in my mind that they werent gonna open the course, buti checked it right before i went to bed the night before i was gonna go... i bascailly cried all night. stratton management is garbage

It really sucks that Stratton is getting such a bad rap with respect to not supporting parks. I know a bunch of employees and management there that totally feel the opposite. I'm pretty sure they'd be open to hearing your feedback or at least explaining where they're coming from.

I know for a fact that they don't feel good or really want to close the US Open site after they spent hundreds of thousand dollars building it, so there must be reasons that we don't know. The main reason they even host the Open in the first place is to support riding and the snowboard community.

Maybe you should reach out to them and let them know how you feel or ask them some questions to get the full story or reasons behind their decisions???

I can tell you why....money. It would cost too much to maintain the course and they really don't care. They explicitly stated they're not willing to build the park on suntanner because they thought it was a waste of money. I'm sure that mount snow is putting a lot of money into their parks and stratton has money to spare but they obviously don't care that much.

you sound like youre somewhat involved there so why dont you tell us

hahah I dont know if TWA is joking or not, but it's def not why. Bear migration wtf? they've had the course and that part of the mountain open every other year that was the point of this thread

well, thats usually why stratton has to close by a certain date because Stratton is bear habitat. but, thats not why they closed sun-bowl. im still not sure what the true reason is, but the week after stratton closes i believe that people are going to go up and re-do/build some of the jumps

haha that's crazy I never thought about bears being where I shred and let alone active enough to close down the place. kinda cool but scary. I wonder how frequently people see them. I saw one in my backyard when I was little and nearly shit my pants.

Here's a picture of a bear in a tree from two weekends ago at the top of Lower Down Easter (Sun Bowl)

Yes, there are in fact Bear's and it does border Protected Bear Habitat; but...NO, that is NOT why the Sun Bowl Closed early.

Here's what I know.....

Very low business levels, volatile weather in late March (60 degree's, pouring rain, back to freezing every night) and the general safety & condition of the Sun Bowl is why the Sun Bowl closed early. Those jumps were made for the world’s top 5% pro-riders with forced air. They're not designed for the general public who "think" they're pros to go big and ride anything, not to mention mom, dad and little sis’ who find themselves in harms-way in a park they have no business being in. Aside from that, the removal of staging, scaffold, towers, generators and other machinery also added to its hazard level.

...believe what you want

fuck the bears. if they really close part of mountains for animals than thats retarded. fucking environmentalist faggots ruining a good park for stupid creatures. even if its not due to bears being faggots, its still gay. stratton is full of homos and it always will be.

true but there are tons of other mountains that have bigger jumps than those and are open to the public. Some of these places are on the east coast, including Mount Snow, they have the dew tour jumps open. I could name at least 10 other u.s. mountains off the top of my head that have bigger jumps than those.

isn't that what park passes are for? and doesn't stratton already have a park pass system in place? seems like that would sufficiently address the family safety scenario.

any single person can get a park pass now and even skip the video. plus those jumps had like 10-15 ft drop off on the other side and people coiuld get seriously fucked up on them
