i lust got a $206.67 speeding ticket for doing 57 in a 35. stupid i know but the cop that pulled me over was on the side of the road with no lights what so ever on. isn't it a law that they cant pull you over unless they have at least marking lights on? because im not looking forward to losing $200

its never illegal to ask a cop a question about his methods in detaining you. (well maybe in some really strange circumstances, but for the most part.)

it is, however, illegal in certain places for them to do certain things that they do to try to catch speeders, etc. i.e. in most places (im pretty sure every province) in canada, cops can't catch you speeding if they're radaring from private land, because they arent allowed to radar from their. only public/crown land, but sometimes theyll push it or bend the rules a bit.

don't hold me to my word on this, I don't want to say im 100% sure thats true everywhere, or that theres not more details to it. i do know a guy who's a cop and thats the basic description he gave me.
 
Unfortunately, you are going to get nowhere in arguing this because you were going nearly double the speed limit. I think you should be happy that you only got a ticket.
 
They dfon't have to have lights on top. Don't be stupid and do 60 in a 30, cops patrol those speed areas, and that is way to fast for a town.

I hate cops that are dicks about speed, but PEople who go to fast for the road should get a ticket
 
i mean i love it when people think that they can do what they want around cops when there is nothing stopping them from getting mad then finding something to pull you over for, it happens alot

that dumb and i think so but if u go to court over it the judge always goes the cops way and 57 in a 35 s fuckign stupid... i would go 45 at the max and on a really turny road like 40 im to young to crash my car and not be able t use it for a whilew plus loose all my money to fix it

you have got to be the biggest retard here on NS. Everyone in this thread is making sense except for you. The OP was going 57 in a 35, thats just not 5mph over the limit. If that was the case then yes you could fight it and maybe the cop was being a dick, but no this is not the case. If the speed limit is set at 35mph then that means its a residential or really busy area. that means that people are always on the side of the street or crossing. How smart does it sound to be going 57 in a 35? you don't have time to react or stop in time if someone were to walk out, or a kid jolt out of the side of the road after a ball. How could you even begin to think that the cop was doing wrong here by pulling him over? For one it's his job to protect people from assholes like the OP. And like someone already said, he is lucky to only have gotten a ticket for that. And what the fuck do you have against the police for you to justify calling them "pigs"? I seriously doubt that they did something so terrible to you like plant coke in your pocket that would give the justification to hate on them. Fuck you, you're stupid and get the fuck off NS.

and to the OP. you fucked up big dude, i would just take it in the shorts now and be thankful for what you only got. because this could have been a lot worse.

the thing is, even if there is a law that says that this speed measurement was illegal, dont fuck with cops. in german we say (translated directly) that they "sit at the longer lever", meaning that they can bust you for everything if they dont like you or think that they dont respect you.

idk about the us, but just for car controls, they could ask for first-aid kit, safety vests, how to access the spare wheel, pressure in tires, profile depth of the tires, etc etc etc until they find something not correct and give you a ticket for it.

bottom line: stay calm and accept the punishment, especially in such obvious cases. i hate people who can only blame cops, teachers, politicians and parents for their sorry excuse for a life.

People need to drive smart. Speed isn't the problem, stupidity is. Doing 60 down residential or crowded streets is retarded. Your way way way more than than the speed safety nets. It a 35 if you keep it 40 or under 99.9 % of the time noone will fuck with you. If you keep it 44and under you still barely have anything to worry about. But 57? Plus cops hang out specifically in speed zones that are slow to bust people driving like you.

Pay the ticket and learn your lesson. I know you're 16 and you just got your license but don't be a tool.
 
no, they can't sit on the side of the road in complete darkness without their parking lights on. they have to be visible, that is the only rule. you're an idiot for doing 57 in a 35. you deserve every penny you have to pay. 35mph zones are generally residential neighborhoods with children running around, not highways. you should have your license taken away until you can understand the very basics of being responsible for a 3ton object.
 
I got pulled over doing 63 in a 35 once. The cop was pretty cool though, It was on some mountain roads by my house and he understood I knew the road really well. He lowered it to 19 over. Ended up only being one point and $75. Pretty legit.

What did you think was going to happen? The cop can pull you over regardless of whether or not his lights are flashing. Suck it up and pay your fine. You assume adult responsibilities while driving, so assume adult implications to immature actions.
Take it from me, an auto enthusiast and someone who rarely abides by the posted limits (hypocritical, I know). You've gotta pay to play.
And your appeal will 99% be denied if you bring it to court. Pay it, and life goes on.
 
Yeah man it sucks to get caught speeding. Here in VT it comes naturally, can't help it with all the deserted roads, no traffic, and not that many people. Nonetheless, if you are gonna speed, don't be an idiot about it. Cops always set up speed traps (especially at the ends of residential areas where the speed limits transition), doing it in whatever dishonest way they please. If it's the end of the month, don't speed, the pigs need to fill their quota and they will screw you over for 5mph over. Definitely getting a radar detector helps, but still keep in mind for others on the road, especially near towns. No matter if you speed, always consider other's safety.

Read the details of what your actually paying sometime and you'll puke. i was fined for trespassing while skiing powerlines on hunting property......the fine was 25 dollars. I ended up paying 115 if I remember correctly, there is a huge laundry list of crap they make you pay for like court costs and disabled officers and widows funds for officers and taxes and it's seriously fucking rediculous.

2) Even if it was it wouldn't matter because police are corrupt and do whatever they want without any sort of system of checks
3) You are lucky as fuck, I got a 60 in a 45 once and it was $350

How much over the speed limit do you guys drive on the highway? Usually I do 10 over or less, but i'm just curious as to what speed the typical NS'er would consider too fast.
