over here just dropped my 17-85 on the concrete ground of my apartment. fuck this building.

The mount doesn't seem to fully spin into the body anymore, I'm guessing the metal part of the mount itself is bent. Anyone have any experience with this? Possible to fix the mount instead of buying a whole new lens?

I know it's not the most expensive lens ever but when it's 1 of 2 and you have $3 to your name it seems like a lot to lose.

Fuck I'm stupid.

I've dropped my 24-105 before and fucked the mount. I sent it in to get fixed and as far as I can remember it was about $80 for the fix. They just had to replace the mount and it's basically as good as new now. It's still a bit warped, but it goes on my camera, and I don't see any distortion, so I'm good!

You won't have the lens for a few weeks, but it's not too big of a deal.

Thanks for the relief.

Who/what department did you contact about it first? I'm assuming it's not warranty if it's an accidental drop on the ground. Repairs maybe or something?

I just went to my local camera store and they sent it out for me to this repair shop that they use. I'd suggest that. I didn't have to do anything, haha. But if your local shop is Ritz then I would think twice about that. I'm pretty sure it's not covered under warranty, but I'm not sure. You could call Canon(??) and ask.

And if it doesn't work out.. I'm selling my 17-85! What are the chances, hahaha.

AND I FUCKED UP JUST LIKE YOU. Lost an alienbees cybersync receiver in the snow today shooting urban. Sick life. $80+shipping down the drain. FUCK.

Hahah thanks. I'll probably take it down to Vistek and see what they say.

And thanks, that'd be sick but I think if I drop cash on a new one it probably wouldn't be the 17-85 again. It came as a kit with my 40D.
