I know it's another drunk driving thread, but I can't help but to sit here and not post this. On Saturday 3 Students from the High school in the next town over from mine (Shenendahoa High school) and 1 from my own school (Shaker High School in Latham, NY) were in a very tragic car accident. While driving home from a basketball game between UAlbany and Siena colleges on I-87, the main highway in our area, some fuckhead who was drunk out of his fucking mind ran into the back of them at 90 mpg while they were doing around 60. The driver was killed on impact, the girl in the passenger seat who goes to my school is in critical condition with multiple broken bones. As for the passengers in the backseat, one was again killed and the other is in critical conditions. It was very heartbreaking to all of us to hear such a tragic thing happen to students who are our age (17/18 Years old). Today all of our school wore Shen's Green and tomorrow they will wear Shaker Blue in support for the students and families effected by the accident. Drunk Driving is really, really, fucking stupid. Hopefully the justice system teaches the dumbass who took their lives a good fucking lesson.
 
That sucks. Only an hour and a half from there and know lots of friends from that area that went there maybe still go there.

Sucks that it's always the person that causes the crash that survives. At least that's the way it seems.
 
damn. vibes man, this stuff should never happen and why drunk driving is illegal.
 
I don't know, but from what i heard they did a quick breathalyzer test while on the way to hospital and he was way over the legal limit. They were gonna conduct blood tests to see what his BAC was, never found out how high it was
 
man, that's too bad. this shit makes me sick. i mean, how fucking hard is it to call a cab if you've had too much to drink?!? especially when the consequences can be so devastating.

and bortionator, studies have actually shown that the intoxicated person is more likely to survive an accident. it's not just a myth. something to do about alcohol acting as a buffer between certain chemicals that are released in the brain in the event of stress.

That sucks to hear. I hate drunk drivers. My thoughts go out to the families.

Any more details on the accident? At a relative speed of 30 MPH, being rear ended doesn't seem like it should do as much damage as it did. I've been rear ended at a dead stop by someone going about 30 and barely had a stiff neck the next day. I'm assuming both cars flew off the highway, which is what killed the driver?

Also more likely to survive if you're sleeping i think. Being completely relaxed in a crash helps you come out with less injuries. At least I think I read that somewhere.

I just meant more in terms of how unfair it seems. Really does always seem like the asshole is the one who walks away without a scratch.

At least they caught the guy. My buddies brother was in iraq for at least 6 years. Came back fine each time. Was home for a little while and got hit my a drunk driver while he was walking home super bowl sunday a few years back. Also was a hit and run and I don't believe they ever caught the bitch that hit him.

 
I believe part of it is also because it keeps your body more relaxed, so when something violent happens you don't tense up and get hurt. It's the same logic behind why children are more likely to survive car crashes. It was in some report about how children are most likely to survive plane crashes actually. They just stay loose and relaxed so they survive.
 
the reason drunk drivers survive is because the alcohol keeps their muscles and stuff looser so impact is not as hard on their body.
 
yeah, i've heard something about being relaxed, too, and it seems to be my experience when crashing skiing as well. when i get rag dolled across the water at 45 mph, it seems to hurt a lot less if you just go with it as opposed to trying to "fight" it. now i realize it's not exactly the same, but the concept is similar.

 
That sucks so bad. Drunk drivers are the reason for handicapping one of my cousins. My aunt was hit by a drunk driver while she was 7 months pregnant and now my cousin Alec has serious mental retardation from the crash.

Seriously, fuck all drunk drivers
 
it almost sounds like he didn't blow above the legal limit, so they are going to use a blood test to get a more accurate assessment. i would think that if he blew a ridiculous amount at the scene, then it most certainly would have been released and they'd be pressing alcohol based vehicular manslaughter charges.
 
Theres newer updates on the times union website that I really dont feel like reading, drunk or not, some idiot killed some real awesome kids, alcohol or not, theres no excuse

shit. yep this is the worst. found out today in school (im from toga). I know shen and us have major beef but pretty much everyone wore green today to show respect. +vibes
 
Sorry about this man, I clicked on this thread to say this. If it makes you feel any better, saratoga had a moment of silence and a countless number of people wore green today.

all your rivals over here were really supportive and when some kids made very rude comments, some students really stood up.
 
it won't, unfortunately. punishments for drunk driving are not nearly strict enough in america.
 
They've been getting a lot more strict as of recent, I wish they would make them much more hardcore for situations like this.

When your bad/ illegal decisions get innocent people killed, the penalties should be much more intense.
 
I think that we focus too much on the alcohol. If alcohol was involved that it's bad, if not then it's alright.

Somebody up near me that had been in crashes before crashed through an intersection and went flying into a house, killed the girl who was riding with him. I think she had sent a text to someone that she was scared because of his driving.

Not sure how long but he's doing some time.

I'm not saying that alcohol doesn't make it worse, but it sort of seems as though we treat that as the only crime, and don't care about reckless drivers.

People drive like assholes everyday and nobody cares as long as they're not drunk. Idk, I think the reckless driving charges in general need to be elevated as well.
 
yeah, this guy will do time either way....regardless of the results of the alcohol. and rightfully so. he was apparently driving like a fucking jackass. i agree with what you're saying though.
 
Fuck drunk drivers, you get caught drunk driving you should get beaten the shit out of by every parent to lose a kid from drunk driving.
 
have they? that's good to hear. i wish they would give bigger punishments for any kind of DUI. If the penalties were harsher people would not drink and drive nearly as much as they do. you should lose your license for a year or two the first time you are caught doing it, not get a slap on the wrist and told you can still do it twice before anything bad will really happen.
 
Around three months ago I got hit by a drunk driver on his 3rd DUI. I had a broken collar bone and right arm, whiplash and a concussion. I got about 5 grand in medical bills. He got 2 1/2 years in the clink. FUCK drunk drivers with a long black cock in a state penitentiary.
