last friday word was round in my town that there had been an car accident, with two cars involved. head on head collision.

the girl(18, got her licence a week before) who was driving died and the passenger (girl 20) is now in indused coma.

the thing is, it turns out the driver of the other car were drunk driving. and from came out of the police reports he was going fast! like 90 mph fast.

There is drinking and driving where you drive the speed limit, be safe and cruise like 5 mins back to your house and then there is reckless drunk driving. I don't understand how anyone can get into a car hammered and just cruise at 90mph and hit someone, stupid people.

Id say theres definitely different levels of drunk driving. The law doesnt distinguish obviously, but yeah~

Yeah its still inexcusable but i definitely know "smart" drinkers and drivers who are safe as fuck and would never drive 90 into oncoming traffic.

yes and no. I get what you're saying, but if you drink and drive I don't think the term "smart" can apply. When you're drunk you're judgement is impaired and even if you're driving 30km you could still hit someone and seriously hurt them.

An hour ago a helicopter came to the hospital. Drunk driver hit another drunk driver. Head on collision, cars flipped and smashed.

Its not a good idea.

I think thats a pretty stupid thing to say. Suppose your driving and you get sideswiped by a drunk driver. Im sure you'd think differently

theres also when you drink and youre over the legal limit but you are not drunk at all and are safe to drive. Its because a lot of the legal limits have gotten so low because of the corrupt organization of MADD.

I have only ever driven drunk once and that was after polishing off a 2'6 and then giving 8 ppl a ride to get food, and then not remembering how i got the car home. From that experience alone I never drink and drive, if i am going to have anything to drink i make sure that i leave my keys at home. Its fine to risk my own life doing stupid shit, but when it puts the lives of others in jeopardy its just no worth it anymore.
You have to ask yourself if someone's life is worth the 5-10 bucks that it would cost to get a cab.
Im not saying that im all high and mighty on this situation but i think everyone has to make the choice on their own and im wanted to share with you my choice and why i made it.

suppose I'm struck by a a sober woman driver, same thing. Women shouldn't drive, to say otherwise would be hypocritical of you.

"Suppose im struck by a deer running across the road. Deer shouldnt be alive."

Sounds like pretty much the same thing, and both really are terrible arguments

im not saying this to get hated on although i know it will happen,i lost my license for the previous year and a half for a DUI (driving under the influence) i blew a .220 and yea its a terrible thing i've had friends who have lost their life to drinking and driving and from people drinking and driving, but i was pretty much home when i got caught,. not saying this as an excuse, but since that happened and i regained my license i have told SO many people and they have learnt from my mistake. its stupid and 20-40$ for a cab is well worth keeping your life.
super shitty about those girls tho, +vibes.i hope people learn. not to mention, i live in canada and still am in for 1500$ and a 1.5 year suspension.

If that deer killed you, you'd still be just as dead as if it were from a drunk driver. The reason there are deer related accidents on back roads is because that's all that's out there to run into. The reason there are a lot of drunk driving accidents through the night is because there are mostly drunks on the road at that time, not much else is open. People crash their shit everyday, it doesn't matter if they were drunk, distracted, sleepy, whatever. This isn't minority report we shouldn't be charging people for things they might do. As long as someone is following traffic laws and driving fine it shouldn't matter what's going on inside the car or their brain. If that deer was doing 90 and running stoplights then I wouldn't have a problem with police taking action.

if you dont think theirs a difference between driving like a maniac when your drunk and driving extra carefully why dont you shut the fuck up

tis the season for it. Just avoid driving even when your not drunk from like 12-6. Its hard to do a lot of the time, but seems to be the hour when people die from these.

not only the above reasons, but if you get caught youre done. It's going to cost you thousands of dollars in legal troubles, you'll have to take classes and you will have your license suspended. IMO just pay the 4 bucks for a cab or call the hooptie.

yeah it's wrong but people are going to do what they do. just be smart yourself. p.s. these threads get incredibly self-righteous and preachy.

Same thing happened where i live. Some drunk lady was doing 90-100 on a busy street that has a limit of 30. Two girls were just pulling out of their work and then they got nailed, both girls died and the drunk was fine.

an hour ago a drunk driver was inexplicably hit by a sober driver, but will still be the one at fault even though he was driving well within his means.

sure the law doesnt recognize safe drunk driving from dangerus drunk driving, but if youre in the first category you will most likely not get arrested unless theres a roadblock or some shit.

I used to agree with this idea, but now I am totally against it. "Smart drinkers" don't drive. One of my best friends seemed absolutely fine when he left this party, we didn't even know he drank. He ended up driving a little more recklessly than normal, had to swerve to avoid a car coming around a corner, and driving through a house (that's right, right through a 6 year old's bedroom while the kid was sleeping).

It's not the most difficult thing in the world to control yourself, but if you have bad judgment even for a second, that booze is going to multiply every mistake by 10. This incident changed my beliefs entirely, and it's just not worth it to watch my friends get hurt, hurt others, or the same if I was in their situation. It's one thing to have 2 beers and drive home later, agreed. But if I don't feel sure about one of my friends I am always willing to pay the $5 to call a cab, or otherwise find them a ride.

On that note, it's just not worth the ticket and the DUI if you do get caught for any reason. That shit sucks.

ya ik a kid that did that

people make really stupid dessisions

he was really good at soccer and was gana go to a D1 colledge and prolly go pro but he drove drunk and hurt him self bad and the kid in the passnger seat. the other kid is now in a coma and is baraly alive the driver used to give me all fo his old cloths and i was really close to and was very dissapointed with him

i hate gay acccedents that shouldnt have happened

well that's probably what they think at the time, if you get used to drunk driving you think you can handle it and then you end up driving recklessly. you don't even have to be going fast to kill the other people. some studies say that drunk drivers aim for other cars' headlights because they know the other cars are on the road and that's their only way of knowing they're on the road, so they'll drive straight into you. no drunk driving is good, if you're not super drunk and can make it home, then w/e, but it pisses me off when shit like this happens

thats just terrible, i keep seeing new advertiements now instead of drunk driving commercials, i see "buzzed driving is drunk driving too"

I would never get into my car drunk and say in my mind "oh man im fine im gonna drive 90 at headlights!". I could be blackout drunk and i still wouldn't do that, i dont get how anyone could ever do that.

agreed. its really not that bad if ur not retarded. after all there is a tolerated BAC for driving. in WI at least idk what is is other places is .08

i kinda get what eheath says.
there are the dumbass drunk drivers and the smart ones.
the smart ones might actually be safer than they usually are, i know when i drove high one time i drove like 15mph in a 30. but if you go 90 your a huge dumbass.
either way its inexcusable but if you think about it, if your a really cautious drunk driver and only go like 15mph its at least not as dangerous

im sorry to hear that, thats really sad.. the same sorta thing happend to my cousin last fall, he died and his friend walked away with not even a bruse =(.. life is so shitty sometimes

fact of the matter is you have to be prepared to react quickly to an emergency situation, a young woman who worked at the same shop as me tripped in the street in front of a car going to speed limit. The driver was intoxicated, not wasted, but she couldn't brake in time. I dont believe alcohol is completely to blame in my coworkers death, but I do know it played a role, even if those people you know think theyre driving safely, they are still impaired and shouldn't be taking the risk.

Well its entirely true. In fact, id be willing to bet that more than 99% of drunks made it home that night without incident, if we are describing incident as being involved in some sort of occurence resulting in substantial injury~

i hate dumb fags like that.

like my parents always tell me they would be so much more happy if i jsut slept in the car than get it home on time if i was drunk. im pretty sure that would go for everyone.

Yeah, you could be going 5 mph, but if you swerve onto the wrong side of the road where cars are going as low as 30 you can still hurt the people in the car. It'd just be like hitting a stationary object.

I've been in a car with someone who was just a little past buzzed, and he drove like shit. I don't drink often, but i'd never let a friend drive home drunk. I understand that there are people who can still drive perfectly safe, i just don't think it's worth the risk.
