Front Page Video

Is it me or is the front page video player deathly slow these days? I've tried using both Firefox and Safari and the videos either load slowly or sometimes not at all.
I've also tried using two different wireless networks and got the same results.
Is this happening to anyone else?

i think that thing is incredibly small... I know there is a full screen option, but that makes the videos bluryas hell.

What is slow about it? Is it the loading time, buffering, changing between videos?

More detail, and we can sort it out. I think we're actually going to change the way that player works to make it way more efficient. We're also going to be launching the video section out of beta in the next couple of weeks so get ready for NS to get a video overhaul.

Just today we removed the watermarking and upped the quality of the encoder for the new video section by your guys requests!

Sorry Doug. Here's some more details:
-When trying to play a video (in this case, the Mt Bachelor video), the video does not load and says something along the lines of "Connecting to Server" I wait, and I wait, and still nothing happens.
When I try to play another video (Traveling Circus 3), I again get the same message but eventually I can here the audio and cannot see the video or the audio and video are not in sync.

Hmmmm.... have you tried it with different browsers? What browser/OS are you using?

Do other people have this problem?

We might actually replace the flash player.. this one isn't that great.

Have you been having it persistantly for a long time? Is it only one internet connection? DOes it work at other computers for you? Does it work if you take your computer to another internet connection?

It happened on my connection at school, my apartment, and now my parents house.
It's been slow forever but in the past 2 weeks it's just not cooperating at all (Unless I'm watching a Salomon video on a Tuesday).

yes all that was said in this whole thread happens to me

sometimes it's just the go army or other commercials that work and the vid doesn't play at all.

IS it per video thats screwed up, or do some videos work on one computer and not on another?

Do you use an adblocker? Originally with adblocker+ installed I couldn't watch videos without tweaking some filter rules

We just found out that a couple of the videos recently had some unix permission problems and might not have been displaying properly.

Check now... it should be resolved. If you see this again in the future please don't hesitate to let us know! Can't catch everything...
