Front flips

theres been alot of these threads latley... but i must say, i would be happy to take some advice for this too

just learned these a little while ago. what to remember is to pop up straight hard and then throw the flip. jump then rotate don't start to rotate before you pop. so just pop pull your legs to your chest and try to suck your own dick.

ya there have been tons of threads on this. but seriously just do them like you would on a tramp or off a diving board. they are really easy. park jumps are easiest

ya real easy trick just throw it off a smaller jump and the worst will be you will fall on your back but man up and do it cause its dam fun once you get it done

just huck, tuck, and hope it comes around and you land on your feet. thats the way i do it.

easier to pop with 2 feet. eventually you can learn the step way. i'd recommend, once in mid-air, to seperate your legs a little ones a little in front of the other. makes landing easier

Like others said, jump up, don't just throw your shoulders down, or you're going to land on your back. It's easy once you get the pop right. Imagine jumping up and over a bar that's at chest height.

Yeah biggest problem I have with teaching people how to do frontflips is that they don't pop. They throw their arms correctly and all but they just kind of roll off the lip. Although it is not impossible to do a fronflip if you don't pop, sometimes I forget to pop and I just end up throwing it super hard and getting it around, usually backseat, but I ride it out. When you are just learning them keep your hands up by your head and when your feet get close to the lip, Pop hard, and throw your hands down to grab your knees. This will set the rotation, you just need to commit and not open up once you get upside down.

I disagree, I landed my first front flip ever (claim =) and I did it the step way, made it soooo much easier, then a friend (who is much better than me) tryed it first time and didn't step and wiped. Not saying that this makes it impossible to learn the other way around, it just seems a bit backwards to do the harder way first.

This is a great thread. Ive been thinking of trying some fronts but I havent had the balls to do them on skis. Thanks for all the tips!

i learned em staggering my stance, it was easier in my opinion.

just come in to the jump staggering, at the lip shoot your head, shoulders, and/or arms forward (not down) as you pop of your front foot

its all about total 110% commitment.

Your form could be shit, but if its a big enough jump, and you go total balls out, you will make the flip.

Stopping the rotation and landing just comes natural, its not something that can be taught, your body just does it.

But, the best way to do it would be to pop straight up off of both feet, then, do your own mini super man flip, like dumonts, but way smaller, at the start lean forward and put your arms out, it may seem scary, but if you do it it looks way cooler, and it is fairly simple. After you put your arms out, swing them back underneath you. It helps if you time the arm swing with your legs, it sometimes helps if you try and grab your ankles when your swinging your arms back, then tuck your head under, and like someone said, try to suck your balls. Doing all that will give you alot of momentum to do your flip. When you feel your feet swing down in front of you you can start to open up, the rest comes natural.

Also remember, than with a front flip, or most flips, you never quite get enough pop, so make sure you go a bit faster than usual, going a bit deep on a flip is WAY better than comin up short.

But ya, total commitment, just keep in mind, than trying and landing anywhere other than on your head, and you should be fine

Good luck.

Do you guys think that frontflips or backflips are easier on skis?

Ive heard different people say both things

under for fronts i think. its weird not being able to see your landing coming to it so you probably will land a little back seat.

well body mechanics wise and actually doing the trick backflips are easier because you can spot your landing and slow it down or speed it up.

but normally more people aren't as afraid of doing front flips so those are easier to get the balls to do and easier to commit to.

i wouldnt say that either of them are harder than the other but just different.

its different for everyone. even though i learned backflips long before i learned fronts, now frontflips are easier for me. you dont need nearly as much air as you would for a backflip.

ohhhhh the glory of just rolling a fat front over a huge jump.... so much fun.
I personally find them super easy to do if you stagger your feet (like dumont). Pop and throw all your weight forward and down. Stay tucked up and don't turn your head, but look out sideways with your eye to see were you are in the rotation so you know when to open up and put down the landing gear.

try doing a superman front flip they are easier when you first start learnig them

becasue you already have half the rotation whenn you go super man then once you go super mant tuck in your knees that will brign around the rest of the flip

I would say under rotate, I've done many fronts and never over rotated, always under. Last season i broke the tail of my ski under rotating

just remember to jump and then spin, just like on a diving board or tramp, you want to pop and then spin, don't use pushing off the lip as momentum or you'll knuckle the jump

I was trying to get some on park jumps this weekend and I popped tucked and got around the whole way but when I was about to land instead of preparing for the landing I turned sideways. I think I needed a little more or tuck even harder to get around to spot it really good. I landed 1 in pow once and I landed sideways on one once and fucked my knee.

I have done that a couple times myself, often when I was tired and opened up way too early so couldn't spot the landing, kinda hard on a front flip anyway, so turned on my side without thinking rather than landing on my back.
