aha! I had this same problem at christmas! hire a car / get a bus to the station and go on the TGV = much faster.

Ring up the French tourist office for whatever country you live in. Theyll tell you the best route. Youll probably be looking at a bus from Cham to Bourg st Maurice and then another from Bourg to Tignes.
