What is good about our sport and what are the misconceptions that people have about? Just list them out. I just need some help for this homework..
 
lol i'd be sure to add that to my list. I have to write a fucking stanza after i get 10 "What's Good" and 10 "Misconceptions"
 
some people dont even know about freeskiing. they just thin all skiers are spandex wearing racers. that we are rebel punks. and were "extreme". that one makes me laugh. no one takes us seriously. its just "those kids"
 
What's good:

1. Entertaining form of exercise

2. Unique

3. Great way to enjoy the out doors

4. A physical AND mental challenge

5. Improves balance and strengthens the body

6. A great way to get away from society and the daily routine

7. Tight knit community usually filled with good-hearted kids (not always, there are some dumb fuckers here on NS)

8. Usually not done for money or winning, done for love of the sport

9. Progresses, constantly being pushed/changed (sports like football and baseball remain the same)

10. A great way to make friends and meet new people

Misconceptions:

1. Everyone in skiing wears tight clothes and goes really fast

2. "Tricks" cannot be performed on skis

3. Terrain parks are for snowboarders only

4. Skiing is not a diverse sport

5. Skiing does not require quick reflexes, balance, or athletic abilities

Misconceptions are a little tougher, so I will give you five.

I don't know why I am doing this, but next time, do your own work.
 
agreed need a term that lets people know i hate saying you know like the xgames and newschool doesnt work makes you kinda sound like a dildo.
 
No we don't, we just need to get the name we have out there. The best stage we have right now is the X-Games, that doesn't help a whole lot though, Extreme Games, not helping. The Dew Tour is our next best stage but let's face it, no one watches the Dew Tour, I barely even know when the X-Games are on. It will get out there if the right steps are taken. At this point, it's up to us and the companies, who is hot and who is not, if the guy spinning like a top to win is leading our sport, we are fucked. We just need the right people at the forefront of our sport.
 
i was talking to a teacher at my school once and he asked me what my interests were. i said i'm really into skiing and after i said that he immediatly thought i was a stoner. what the hell? i'm not a stoner it's just the stereotypical skier these days is a stoner. hope that helped for your homework
 
alot of people mistake skiing for just the racing, going fast, you cant do tricks aspect. then when i tell them freeskiing, they say oh like aerials. too many times people tell me skiing is gay, you should snowboard, just because of this misconception. Then they claim they know more about what can be done than me, and ive gotten incredibly pissed before about it haha.
 
Well most people my age that I talk to haven't even heard of freeskiing, let alone twin tips. When I say my son skis, they assume I mean snow boarding. Alot of people of the older generation still think sking is just going up and down the hill, skiing parallel. If you're a "skier", your not in the latest trend. I f you're a skier, you must race. Maybe they think we ski because "they think" snowboarding is harder, so we can't do it...IDK, just a thought. The older generation, in general, doesn't realize what amazing things you all are doing on the slopes, have never heard of a terrain park, or if they have, think its just for boarders. There is a conception that boarders are more inconsiderate on the slopes than skiers. Whether this is true or not, IDK.
 
Oh and another thing. Some people, mostly older people, think if you dress big and baggy "gangsta" then you are probably a thug, sloppy, underachiever, disrespectful etc...Just like people think if you wear your pants down low you're probably a trouble maker, not a "good" kid, rebellous. I may be way off base, but this is some of the misconceptions I hear from peeps of my generation.
 
new word for freeskiing... "cool"as in, "im going to the mountain to go cool"or "im so good at cool"no ing, makes it sound like whip cream or something, just cool
