Freeskiing in the publics eye

It's kinda funny and ironic when you think about this. Mainstream wise and in the public's eye, snowboarding is the popular sport (when it comes to park). Everyone knows who Shaun White is, you've got snowboarding video games, you can walk into Target and buy Burton clothing, halfpipe is an Olympic event for boarder ect. Basically when you mention snowboarding, people think Shaun White, halfpipe, do cool tricks off of jumps and rails. Then you mention skiing and people think rich tight pant wearing douche bags. Then you'll mention how you ski park/pipe and people will be like, "I didn't know skiers did that sort of thing. Do you mean like moguls? Basically in the public eye, people still have no clue how big freeskiing is. Then you go to a mountain with a sick park like PC, and all of a sudden, you realize that freeskiing is really the more popular sport. At most parks now a days, there's noticeably more skiers. I'd say like 60% skiers 40% boarders in a lot of parks. And that 60% does not include the dad with his 3 kids standing on the lip fucking everything up. That 60% of skiers are all kids with twin tips throwing down. Maybe not everyone is nasty and all, but they're all there riding park trying to get better. So it's like people who have no clue about freeskiing will go to a mountain for the first time and be like, "damn, there are more skiers in the park than boarders" and then be blown away when they see a skier switch up on a rail like 3-4 times and hit a jump backwards.

i stopped reading after this, no shit people dont know as much about freestyle skiing. It's not as big of a sport as snowboarding, thank you captain obvious.

lol the point i'm trying to make is that freeskiing truly is the more popular sport...if when you go to a resort, and there are more skiers in the park than boarders, wouldn't you say that skiing's the bigger sport? Let me rephrase it. In the publics eye, snowboarding is way more popular, but in reality, on any given day at most parks, you will see more skiers throwing down

No obviousley he dos'nt see there actualy is more boarders in the park. this is because snowboarders are on there ass while skiers are standing tall.

The kid makes a valid point. This is why Jacob Wester left the site.

Who cares if it is repeated and an obvious point- i see it everyday working the tourists of Breckenridge and I pay attention to these people because I have to act like I care to get tipped well. I had one woman just the other week- I said I had broken a rib on the mountain- she CLEARLY states " Well you must snowboard" - I said "No, I ski" She replied right away with " Wow, that is rare!" I paused and did not no what to say. I never replied because I had no idea how too. I was confused and I did not want to be rude. So I change the subject and moved on.

I have been working with the public in Breck for four years now and I see situations like this everyday. Yes WE ALL KNOW and this kid is captain obvious but seriously shut the fuck up unless you ACTUALLY see WHAT i see. It is unbelievable sometimes and sometimes I have been rude because I could not believe how ignorant someone could be. Will it take the Olympics for people to change their outlook in 2014? Who knows.

hahah...PC there are defiantly more skiers in the park than boarders. No doubt there. Waterville cause of the boarding schools like Holderness and New Hampton and their freestyle programs, deff more skiers. I've noticed more skiers at Loon as well. A buddy of mine lives in Brek and says that there are more skiers at both Keystone and Brek...Idk...just seems like a lot of mountains that have sick parks seem to attract more skiers than boarders

My hill for one has so many more skiers then boarders. People just are not informed about what we do.

Other day, arena session with some of my boarder friends and people stop and watch and when they see me on skis there totally amazed by it. I think it's pretty cool when someone see's something they think is new and are astounded by it. Then they tell people and it soon gets around about what some skiers do.

wow. now i understand this website. if you have a "high" karma rating like 'skiiiieman' then you can make a rediculous and wasteful thread, and everyone loves it and doesn't say shit. but when someone with a "low" karma rating, most people end up saying how worthless and full of nonsense their thread it, when in reality it's most likely time and effort put into a thread with a large amount of intellect.

Haha I remember watching the opening day video for Bear Mt last season and saying holy shit there is a skier and they are filming him!

Heres The Vid:

and Mt. High... Its because of all the flatlanders from LA. If you just counted locals there would be a much higher percentage of skiers.
