Freeride try outs

Am I the only one that think that structured / coached / team freeskiing is horrendously gay and needs to be confined to the archaic days of one piece neons and bitch-mouthed racers?

guess so..

nope, i agree to the max. Anyone who needs to try out for a freestyle ski team or get involved in any sort of related organized association is obviously very insecure about their skiing abilities. The sport was not made for such formality and shouldn't be subject to any major association's standardizations or tests. This sport was made to get away from crap like that and just to have a good time riding with your buddies. I think what defines competition in newschool skiing and traditional racing and the like is that the object in racing is to undermine your competitor and beat them out from under, but in newschool its all about getting everyone else as amped as you are and pumping up the level of competition for not only the competitors, but for yourself as well. Thats my 2 cents.

except in racing i dont know how you could say you beat your competitors out from under the way you beat them is the same... i still dont have anything wrong with racing... its just that in race competition you are doing the same thing as every other competitor, and it judges who is the best at one certain thing, and then its not entirely fair because course conditions change but you still need to do the same thing....

freeski competition on the other hand gives you options, not every competitor does the same tricks down a slopestyle. thats where the difference is, it makes it more exciting. plus you arent freezing your ass off in a spandex suit waiting for your run.

when i say "beat out from under" all i mean is that you have a set time that you have to beat (unless youre first of course. It's just a different style of competition in my opinion, thats all. I don't hate on racing, its just not something that i personally like to do. I think we are technically agreeing on the same thing, so yeah, sorry if i wasn't clear about that.
