Forward Lean

Got new boots, tried to stay with a downhill boot that can also tour. Had a ladies qst 110 but they were too soft and they buckles kept blowing open on landings. Now I have a men's qst 130. The forward lean feels so noticable I felt like I couldn't even hit rails today (but could carve like a champ). Anyone else notice the forward lean in a boot when skiing park?

Also open to the ideas that it's not the right boot or I'm just being a little bitch about it and I should harden other fack up, but I'm not sure what my next move should be.

FYI I ski a 23.5 and have a fat forefoot so my options are unfortunately a bit more limited.

Idk personally I like that lean and think it makes it easier to butter, harder to get backseat, etc once you're used to it. Within the park, I don't even think about it anymore tbh unless I'm like purposely trying to do something unusual with my positioning

Take it out for a tour to break in quicker gotta give new boots a couple days before jumping to conclusions on it being too stiff/uncomfortable and going for expensive footbeds and custom bootwork and all that.

You can ski it in walk mode. I had a boot break out of bounds on a Tahoe trip and was in permanant walk mode the rest of the trip it was fine made you lean forward and ski properly on steep mogul runs which isn't ones natural reaction.

Not a bad idea to take it for a tour. They ski really well and the walk mode is hugely improved over last year's and over the ladies.

For the record the Salomon walk mechanism hasn’t actually changed at all in the past, 5 maybe 6 years? The new Shift Pro boots that replace the QSTs have the same exact mechanism. Even the MTN boots have the same mechanism.

Really? it seems like it can flex backwards unlike my previous boots but it also has a different sole so maybe that's part of it The grip walk thing.

Yeah mechanically the same. They cut the upper cuff higher up so that the boot can travel backwards more.

Ah ok that makes sense. Its definitely better. Learn something new every day!

I had the same questions recently. I've been skiing the same old FT for the past few years (9 I think, I have weird feet...) and bought my first touring boot this year, K2 Mindbender 130. Way stiffer, but I always felt like I was a bit backward in jumps and landing.

So I maxed out the forward lean with what the boot offers : from 12° to 17°. So far so good ! (with the mindbender, you can switch the walk mode the get more lean and add a pad behind the calf)

Do you know what's your Forward Lean degree ?

I don't off hand. I looked and I'm not seeing it. I also just realized they renamed the qst boot line, the shift, I guess to align for marketing purposes.

Yo this is serious insanity I cannot ski with the walk mode on my tecnica zero g not in ski mode (accidentally left it in walk mode once). It’s all fun and games until I got knocked backseat and literally was just stuck there until I stopped. Was horrifying thought I forgot how to ski.

Right but if you know its in walk mode and you 'can't' lean back even when you want to you ski better.

It did not snow again that trip.
