Is fortress being closed or sold by rcr, cause along with wintergreen, which i know is closed, it isn't on rcr's early bird pass site

k I've had a Fortress pass for 3 straight years now. I love that hill. I just called and RCR is deciding what to do with it (not good) They are trying to determine hours of operation and didn't rule out selling the hill (bummer). The rep even took my name down for expressing interest in The Fort. Sure, the park sucks, but the hill is a natural park anyway so if you like Fortress, give RCR a holla and let them know. Save Fortress!

ya, fortress is fun. you can go anywhere. i dunno it's rugged and noone's there, it's cool. it's like wintergreen all over again, i worked there last year and then this year they call and tell me they aren't opening so i work at louise for a month but it was to far to drive. it sucks. i hope they don't close fortress

I agree Fortress kicks ass for big mountain

But I have heard that yes it is being shut down, they are trying to get a grant from the govt for the land cuz its in a park, they are also most likley taring down the lodge, all of the condos and the bridge into it.

Sorry to see it go, but there was not even close to enough visits this year to even come close to justify staying open.

 
I emailed them and they said that they are still gonna be open but there not offering any earlybird passes but are still included on the RCR superpass.

 
yeah ive heard the rumors of closing the fortress too, apparently they are thinking of moving the aerial and mogul development programs to nakiska

 
I will never ski an RCR resort again. Sunshine instead of Louise, Kicking horse instead of Fernie. fuck them. fuck them in their stupid asses. Fortress for life biatch!!!

Thank you for your inquiry regarding Fortress.

As you know, we did make changes to the operating schedule at Fortress this

past season, with experiments of operating the resort either 4, 5 or 7 days

per week. We are currently reviewing the results of this as well as

surveying our customers to determine our operating schedule for 2003/04, and

until that is complete, we will not sell any season passes for Fortress.

It is expected that there will be a decision made in July by the owners.

Thanks again for your comments. I will pass them along to the appropriate

management.

its still gonna go, wintergreen is under new managment and might be opened mid season next year. supposedly only a pure boarding hill. but from what some of the guys said who are helping what they mean by that is other than a cat track lane of snow that is flat groom the rest of the front will have features. rumors are the hill is beings bought by a coalition of companies, shops and riders. that would be so fuckin cool but very very unlikley. fortress however is almost positively not closing.

dude i have been skiing fortress all my life and i can't say i like it, the lifts are all slow the staff are all dicks (if you guys know who dave thomas is you know what i mean) the ski patrol is super strickt the lodge sucks and the skiing isn't really good. It doesn't really have big mountain, it is mostly just fun little natural park jibery and stuff but really it does suck, and i wont be sad to see it go. But, i do think it will remain open just operate on a lower level. I have also heard that all the freestyle stuff will move to another hill anyway(nakiska?) because it is so unstable at fortress. but i really don't know anything for sure. So don't take the stuff i said to seriously (except the fortress sucking part)

yea i heard rcr is gonna close nakiska when it gets run down, theyre closing all of our resorts! atleast theyre putting more work into louise and stuff, atleast terrain park wise.

sometimes the rays of the sun get really sharp and poke me int he soft part of my eye
