Formula 1 2011 Season

Has anyone been watching this? there have only been 4 races but it is clear that the new pirelli tires along with the DRS system have created much more passing and very exciting racing. At China Mark Webber started 18th and finished 3rd. Here is an except about the race:
"There have been almost 150 separate overtaking moves since the five red lights faded at the 2011 season opener in Australia.
That is the finding of the Turun Sanomat newspaper in Finland, reporting on the success of F1's new formula featuring moveable rear wings, Pirelli tyres and KERS.

The newspaper said Sunday's 63 passes in China was the highest number recorded in dry weather in more than 20 years.

That number was more than the number of passes in the Shanghai rain two years ago, and compares starkly with the mere 9 passing moves during the 2008 Chinese grand prix.

Turun Sanomat said there were 56 passes in Malaysia less than two weeks ago, compared to 24 at Sepang in 2010. In 2008, there were just 5 passes during the same grand prix outside Kuala Lumpur.

Australia, meanwhile, was the least spectacular of the three races so far in 2011, but there were 29 recorded passes; up 4 on 2009, 17 more than in 2008, and 21 more than the Melbourne race four years ago.

"Lots has been said about the new rules," said Lotus driver Heikki Kovalainen after returning from China to Switzerland, where he lives.

"I agree they're a great success; the races are unpredictable, more overtaking is happening, so they're working."

i was watching the last 4 laps of something today as I was flipping through the channels. Red bull car came in first, not sure who as driving it at the time. F1 is the pinnacle of racing technology.

I like formula 1. I also like other cars on the road courses. I just hate nascar. Going around a donut bores me.

Would be sweet to drive some of those road courses. Oh well, at least I live in an area with some absolutely dank and unpatrolled twisties.

Vettel is defiantly the man to beat and i could also see him winning the championship but you never know what could happen, its a long season

DRS is good, but its not as good as people crack it up to be. They need to work on the DRS activate points so it basically puts the pass attempt to land in a braking or turning zone. As it stands right now DRS is just a push to pass button prior to turns or braking zones. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy DRS and KERS but as it stands right now, they are not increasing the exciting passing that much, just increasing passing on straights.

Vettel is good, but keep in mind how dominant that car is. I like Vettel but I think its 50/50 car to driver for the wins. Once ferrari and mclaren can get some updates on their cars, it will be a bit more interesting.

Last season was the best season in many years, hopefully this season can live up to the hype. Im undecided as of right now what this season will turn into. Id like force india and lotus rene to get their shit together and keep their paces consistent. paul di resta and petrov are pretty fun to watch.

FOM is very strict on who can use their videos, so you wont find any edits or anything of high quality other than their site which you provide your email for, but you dont get any spam linked to the F1 site. Their race edits are top notch, so i suggest checking them out if youre interested

There is so much info that you need to know to get really "into" f1 and it can be scary to a new comer so dont get discouraged and just watch to enjoy the races. Pinnacle of automotive industry so to me the engineering aspects of the circuit is just as exciting as the race weekends for me.

yeah, because f1 is redneck. Get your shit straight before you make a claim. You just look like a pinhead otherwise. F1 is the 3rd most popular sport in the world behind soccer and cricket.

this has been a pretty sick season so far. Redbull racing def have the best cars right now but Vettel is untouchable right now. Ferrari have improved there car since china to.
If anyone watched turkey they needed to move the DRS activation line further up the straight so they catch the car in front in the breaking zone to make it more interesting than just passing on the straight. also turkey had a record number of pit stops which was 80 stops in 58 laps

Avid fan since the early Schumacher days. And yes, Vettel is definately dominating and will continue to do so, I think. Red Bull + German driver = unbeatable :D

Can't wait for the US Grand Prix in Austin next year.... I for one, shall definately be there!!!!

I'm going to go out on a limb here....I think they should be allowed to use the DRS whenever they want. Could make for some very interesting dog fighting through corners if the overtaking driver has the guts and the skill to pull off a pass without as much downforce.

puts the drivers in too much danger. Will never happen. Would be nice, but honestly will never happen. f1 has done everything it can to prevent deaths in the circuit, safety is one of the biggest concerns in f1.

decent race today. Alonso had a wicked start, would have loved to see alonso take the win but the ferrari is just too slow.

monaco next weekend. Thinking about possibly heading out next year for the Monaco Gp to go see in person.

F1 is one of the most glamorous sports out there... ferrari have a team for goodness sake!

And they race round Monaco city which is one of the most trendy cities in the world.

Get learnt son!

on the topic of racing; the indy car race, did you see that! he was seconds away from winning and h hit the wall! i just happened to catch the last 30 laps so i watched.

I typically dont watch oval racing at all costs so i didnt catch the indy. I would have watched it but was outside doing landscape work all day so i missed the indy.

btw if you guys want a really good video on drs and kers, check this out. it really breaks it down well.
