I was pretty sure on a Hd miniDV camcorder, but after reading some of the threads in the searchbar i am not taking a second thought. What are the pros and cons of the different formats, and which are the best for editing and skiing? thanks +k for legit help

HDV

Pros

good quality

easy to archive (pop the tape out and lock it)

easy to keep recording (like switching tapes is easier than copying footy off a mem card)

tapes are cheap

not super compressed so easy on cpus

basically universally supported

cons

occasional problems (easily avoided)

capturing is a bitch

Flash memory

Pros

capturing is quick and easy

cant tape over stuff

easy to watch old footage (no rewinding and shit)

Cons

h264 is not fully supported by alot of programs, like doesnt work with cs3

complicated compression=need a decent cpu to edit

some cameras dont record at bitrates comparable to hdv

Hard Drive

Dont get a hard drive cam
