Formal Ski training

Do any of you all have a formal or training background like Racing or Freestyle. It seems like more and more kids are going straight to the park. I am not saying this is bad, but I am wondering if many of the people on here used to ski moguls then started venturing into the park.

I started working with a freestyle coach lately, and although my overall skiing has improved, I feel it has really helped my park skiing. So just wondering.

The coach is just to help me in the air, I have never skiied moguls in my life. But having someone with a more formal background seems to really help.

I used to ski moguls and all that freestyle stuff. I dropped out of it when my coaches wanted me to compete more.

SMILE, its the second best thing you can do with ur mouth

I used to race for like 5 years then went freeride. i think racing helped me a lot with balance and everything.

I raced for about 5 years and then just got burned out.

Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but in the end, it doesnt get you anywhere. Write that down.

I had about 6 years of formal race training, and this will be my first year instructing.

better to burn out...

...then fade away

I never raced, never rid moguls, but I have been skiing down the hill since I was 4 years old and I seriously learned how to ski before I went to the park...Like alot of kids these days are sick, but they cant ski

virtually all the pros have had formal ski training. Watch the ultimate bumps and jumps on dec. 26 on OLN and see the formal mogul training shine through in most of the skiers. maybe with the exception of Olenick.

Personally, I took lessons as a little kid, raced for four years (cut out to hit the kicker during practice) switched to mogul skiing and have developed my newschool tricks while competing moguls. I school my turns, style and air all over squaw regardless of conditions these days. It is nice to be able to make the turn I want wherever I want and I owe that to years of practice, formal or not
