Forget Mik D. Remember Eric Pollard

What's with all the Mik D worship? Sure, he had his moment. But he's getting more credit than he deserves. Eric Pollard brought WAY more to the table. He pretty much introduced unnatural spins and grinds. He was the first to do zero spins, and arguably the first to land switch in powder (his zero spin in the Utah backcountry may have been the first legit switch pow landing in a film--it was in a Volume episode). He was just as influential in terms of style, too. It was Pollard who kicked off the gorilla steeze craze. That was basically everyone--from Tanner Hall to your local park rat-- trying to look like him, and failing.

And look what Pollard is doing now. Still skiing. Still contributing. Yet all you little munchkins are on Mik Ds dick. I miss the days when Lilhorsey and John Symms would set the record straight....

this thread is retarded. mik d is in prison, pollard still throws down. so why would we have to remember him? as far as i remember mik d was the only one to win a major contest, while pollard hid in the backcountry and did 180s and painted murals

in all seriousness, why the hell are you discrediting mickael's skiing, while hyping pollards? it's fucking weird man. they're both icons.

Mick D getting more credit than he deserves? Shut the fuck up. Thanks.

Pollard is also the man but no need to bash Mick. Maybe if you did some research you'd know why Mickael gets praise around here. Pollard is a pioneer and gets tons of props on NS. Null thread.

They both deserve a spot in the skiing record books and for completely different things. This thread sucks.

I was thinking that you meant Michael Douglas at first and was gonna tear some shit up. However, I agree that Pollard had way more influence than Mik D.

Pollard is an artist and went out of his way to get new perspectives to bring forward by doing silly things such as snowllerblading. It's all so worth it now. his style, attitude and drive are inspiring.

Bitch please! Research? 1. The more you really know about MikD's career the less you think of it. 2. The new generation of MikD worshippers has done the research for everyone, posting his old segments over and over and reminding everyone how he created style and how indebted we all are.

Pollard doesn't get nearly the amount of props as MikD. I know you follow ski gabber. Show me the threads explaining the importance of Pollard, show me the re-posts of his Royalty or early TGR or PBP segments.

And for those who claim MikD is in prison (or about to be), like it explains why he isn't skiing or contributing to the sport: what was he doing before that? He'll tell you himself: he was getting wasted all day with his homies, skiing a few days a year.

its because people remember what mic d did in his prime but pollard is still killing it so we dont have to be all sentemental about it and bring up all his old edits we can just watch the latest ski film and and get stoked on what he is doing now.

just shut up please.

and you're acting as if getting wasted with your homies all year and skiing as often as he wants is a bad thing...

But im gonna throw you some +K, cus everyone keeps telling you you're an idiot (and they're all right), but you just keep on going! thats fantastic

his skiing can't be discredited. his past work obviously deserves its place in the canon. but the skier himself is a different story. he pulled a Jonny Mosely. he tried to parlay his ski fame into celebrity status outside of the sport, and gave up on his ski career.

Seriously? Pollard is still getting props in the form of a pretty nice salary each year (over $50K i'd say, without a doubt). No one needs to remember Pollard. He's still on the scene.

People should NEVER forget about Mick. the majority of younger kids on the hill have never even heard of Mikael, which is sad.

His switch 10 blunt is still one of the best tricks to ever be done on skis.

You don't need a thread when you have a front page story on NS about how rad you are, and how you've been so influential that you get to design your own line of clothing.

And if you look right of that, there's nsTV, where pollard essentially has his own channel (Nimbus). If you'd like I can make a thread everytime Pollard does something new, and clutter the shit outta NSG.

Bottom line, you don't have to remember someone who is still big in the game. You remember something/someone from the past. Isn't that like the definition of "remember".

Remember you saying I try too hard to sound intelligent? Seems to me you really forced 'canon' there, big guy.

This thread blows and I have no idea where you got this idea that Pollard doesn't receive the recognition Mik D does. Pollard is arguably the most notable --and well known-- skier outside of those that regularly compete. He's influenced "ski culture" (if there's such a thing) as much as anyone. Regular NS posters tend to be fairly young, so it would figure that Pollard would be relatively "underappreciated".

Once in a blue moon someone posts a Mik D edit and compares his style to the current pros...so the fuck what? Mik D IS important, whether or not you think what he's done over the last few years is worthwhile or not, because he brought a focus to style and aesthetics over technicality; not unlike Pollard himself. Praise for one skier doesn't imply that another is lesser.

Look at either of Rich's posts in this thread, then beg a mod to delete this stupid shit.

so we can only give one person credit? i mean i'm pretty sure i can remember whoever the fuck i want and how many people i want. with that said, i don't want to remember you, or multiple of the fucking cocksuckers in this thread.

Yo forget Scott Schmidt! We need to remember Tanner Hall!

By the way, where are you seeing all this Mickael worship? There was a thread last week, and a thread a few months ago...

One of the main reasons MikD is so popular on NS is because his lifestyle, rapping and image allow goofy white teenaged boys who wear huge tall-T's and bandanas over their face to somehow feel more legit and secure in their posing on the slopes.

there are threads all the time worshipping mikael, and for good reason, but i do kind of agree with the op here.

still sore, huh? i think i hit a nerve.

casual, you don't understand metaphor. and i'm not sure you understand what a literarty canon is, either.

You didn't use a metaphor anywhere (comparing Mik D to Pollard?...clumsily comparing skiing to literature, maybe?...but not really). And no, I don't know what a "literarty canon" is...and by your improper usage of the word, apparently you don't either.
I do know what 'canon' means, and I know when someone uses a word they aren't all that comfortable/familiar with out of it's typical usage it makes them look stupid and pseudo-intellectual.

And, not sore so much as amused by the irony—obviously you were projecting your own stuff on to me.
After all, it's classic to take issue with the things in others we most dislike about ourselves.
I forgive you though.

i will dead serious paypal someone a couple bucks to get me that song. and yes i know i could rip the audio from youtube. but i want the actual copy of that song

This is just a shit disterber thread, it is completely uneeded to start bashing a good skier. most of the points are valid that dont bash somebody. but why make a thread like this thats all im wondering???

At first I thought you guys were talking about Mike Douglas...then someone said something about him going to jail...

But it is really neat to see both Pollard and Mickeal have such a huge impact on the sport/culture of skiing, through a very relaxed, non-agressive approach (as opposed to trying to dominate podiums or do high-consequence 100ft gaps and such)
