What in your opinion is your favourite news issue that affects the who world. A geopolitical issue that politicaly, ecenomicaly , socialy and culturally affects our world. +K for good answers

There was a recent study that showed a direct correlation between students who failed to complete their own homework on time and painful deaths.

I dunno man, it looked pretty interesting to me.

(Facepalm) You're entitled to your opinion Rowen, but I must respectfully diasgree. I just can't buy into the whole man-made climate change/global warming dealio.

As for the OP's question mine would be terrorism. And in relation to that the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Basically all things related to global conflict/the potential for it, I find quite interesting.

Debate on the cause if you must, but the changes we're going to see in this century will be the greatest stress on the world and influence the four arena's the dudes assignment is on.

What caused this?

It disgusts me that people keep confusing climate with weather, thinking that one potential misstep invalidates an entire organization (the IPCC), and continuing with their ways of before.

Not to mention the fact that it's pretty clear that humanity still has an ego to satisfy--which to me appears to be the reason that so many people doubt climate change.

Lastly, the argument that it was a government conspiracy. Sure, and so was 9/11. It's just a logical fallacy. I mean, Really?

all this stuff about ice caps being at their smallest area since records began is stupid, records have been going for 50 years at most, compare that to the billion or so years the earth has been here records have been kept for a miniscule amount of time

they have always been changing and growing, who's to say they aren't shrinking but will grow in 200, 500, or 1000 years time?

the point is that has happened in under 25 years. ice ages take thousands of years. and yes we do have records of previous climates though ice cores. These records have shown that this is the fastest the earth has ever warmed. All of this started around the industrial revolution and has gotten worse since then. Its pretty obvious that this isnt just a coincidence.

the fluctuating patterns of the earth's temperature caused this. If you read up on this, you would find that this kind of temperature pattern has occured for thousands of years. The temperature sometimes goes up, and sometimes it goes down.

id say ive done a little "reading up" on this subject, its my college major. Yes there are fluctuations in the global temperature all throughout history, but it has never changed this much this fast. it would normally take thousands of years to change as much as it has in the last 60 years.

assuming this is for an essay an easy topic with good literature would be the proliferation of nuclear weapons and icbm's, which are altering the geopolitical landscape.

It baffles me how half of the US still doesn't believe climat change is mostly man made... I mean, I know most of those people are Republicans but for fuck's sake, turn off your egos and look outside your little world: The vast majority of the world agree humans are the main cause for it.

And before you're saying there are other countries who still don't agree with climat change or the environmental laws that comes with it, let me explain a bit:

Those countries, except USA, are undevelopped or developping countries (China for exemple) who are still undergoing their industrial and economic revolution. The same revolution developped countries experienced in the late 19th century. They just want a piece of the cake like we had, wich is in a way quiet fair (eventhough I don't agree with it).

I just can't understand why so many of you are so damn stubbornly stupid about the question. So please open your eyes. Believing in climat change won't make you a democrat, you're just doing whats right for the planet.

yea trick, it involves a decision to preserve 10 million acres of forested land or not, either have it developed or totally shut down to any building what-so-ever. That has the potential to at least make a little divot in the geopolitical news

I grew up in that 10 million acres of forested land, im from Moosehead Lake, and it was a joke. But seriously, most people upon hearing that Maine might be split would answer 'Maine is a state?'

I'm mostly concerned about the fact that our changing climate (whether it be from anthropomorphic causes or otherwise), coupled with a booming global population, will spark some kind of global conflict within our lifetime.... shit is going to hit the fan and there is nothing we can do to prevent it.

i partially agree with you on the topic of global warming...only due to things i have studied such as follows.
the earth has reoccurring weather patterns (such as the ice age), where the amount of CO2 in the air changes drastically due to things such as the freezing of water(and melting), the death/prevalence of photosynthetic plants, etc. Personally i believe that the cycle of constantly increasing CO2 levels would occur if we were here or not, but what i think is the most relevant with this topic is how us, as a society, has exponentially increased not only the volume of c02 that is created, but also the rate at which it is produced. (even though technically it already existed, but was bound to other elements yielding it as some other relevant/irrelevant molecule.)
global warming has happened for millions of years, we have just kicked it in the ass to make it hurry up much quicker than originally thought possible.

This thread deteriorated pretty fast. Im gonna go with a totally different subject. While climate change is important, I am very interested in the current state of our military in iraq/Afghanistan and other places, since I'll be joining the marine corps in a few months.

Are there any marines on NS? I would imagine not, but hey you never know

I feel like bumping these links to the second page because I think it pertains but people got out of whack with the argument and ignored me.
