For all of the (fluffy) NSers out there.

First off, as some of you may know that I am fat. coughcoughSFBcough

Anyways.. thanks to member Turkelton I have started to lose weight from when I started in mid February. Currently I am about 10 lbs down.

He inspired me because he was exactly like me. He tried to lose weight but no matter what he tried he would always go back to bad habits.

So, for any of you guys that are having trouble losing weight or just need a little bit of encouragement he said he would be willing to help.

Also here's a before and after picture of him. I currently don't have anything to show but I should within the next few months.

Awesome dude! I bet running up and down those Duluth hills would get you lean and mean right quick.

I've struggled with weight my entire life. Towards the end of my college career I got into running and got into amazing shape.

Recently though I have let myself go. I figured i'll be doing nothing but hiking for the next 5 months, and just used that as my excuse. however, in 5 months I expect to be the opposite of fluffy.

Good stuff, man... I'm actually heading to the gym for the first time in a long time, this evening. Turning fluffy into gains.

Fat people should just go tree planting. Its like you get paid great money to go to fat camp.

honestly once you get used to the good habits it gets really easy.

you'll see you're gonna start to enjoy eating clean and going to the gym.

Ya I have lost like 30+ pounds (I think I was down 40 pounds at one point). For me, it was all about not eating as much and running. Like a lot of running, I trained for and ran a marathon.

Same boat. Wasn't able to exercise at all for the 12 weeks I was on crutches and put in a few pounds. Tryna lose them but easier said than done

Although I've always been a skinny twig, eating healthy helped me gain a little weight and I just feel better. Once you eat healthy and excersize for a couple months you won't even want shitty food and you'll feel vetter and sleep better. Coming from a guy who ate junk food all day every day and couldn't gain weight.

Came here thinking you where going to make some kind of fat joke about fat nsers. But that is so sick man keep up the good work.

I started college at about 165 lbs and im like 5'8" so i was pretty chubby. I started rock climbing 3+ days a week, cut out all sugary drinks, and watched what I ate. I ended my first year of college at around 130lbs and was pretty skinny but overall happy with the weight loss. Now in my second year of college I've been putting on some bulk and being in good fitness in general.

Having trouble with sticking to a healthy diet right now. Its more of dedicating myself to cooking something versus getting food out.

Dropping weight is hard but when you find something that works for you its $$

GL Rybak!

After my HS football playing days, where i was a muscular but slightly chubby 190, i ballooned to probably 215. I ate like i was still playing and never worked out, and for the longest time i just continued my same heavy eating habits.

now ive lost 45 pounds over the last yearish, all from being incredibly active and limiting the amount of money I have to spend on food. Force yourself to grocery shop, since thats the easiest time to make smarter eating decisions.

Big thing to remember, its not what you eat, its how much you eat. You can still eat total crap (Pizza Pockets!!!), you just have to recognize that because its tasty junk food, youre less likely to stop eating it when youve had enough to be satisfied.

I try to deliberately plan my meals right before I have to go do something, then i eat quickly because im eager to get to whatever it is I'm up to.

Don't eat in front of the TV/Computer/Ipad. This will lead to binge watching and eating at the same time. The dinner table is the only place you can eat food.

And remember, start small. Don't focus on numbers, or how much you've lost. Accept that you're fat, accept you're going to to be fat for a while, and get in better, sustainable habits. Let your habits do the work for you. Too much time stressing or focusing counting carbs/cals/joules will just leave you missing your junk food you love so much.

And bitches love skinnier Byron, they'll love skinny rybak too.

That's great, man. What were his suggestions/what are you doing?

Pretty much you need to cut out as much junk as possible. At first I started eating about 1500 calories a day of fruit and vegetables but now Im doing the same thing but eat chicken or another meat for dinner.

Plus get at least 25 or 30 min of cardio in for a minumum of 3 days a week.

Good job man. My parents are major health freaks. It used to piss me off, but I realized how lucky I am to know how to keep my weight down when I start living on my own.

My mom always says "Red meat is dead meat"... haven't had steak in years. lol

So many people in Wisconsin eat like shit and have heart attacks when they are 60. Beer, Cheese, and steak make people inflate like balloons. Being a pussy is a good thing sometimes.

fear of red meat is exaggerated. blah blah hormones blah blah antibiotics blah blah grains. eat a variety of animals and you'll be fine

you could at least be half pussy and go for the grass fed shit if you're that scared, pussy

a person never getting fat because they're intelligent and know better is more inspirational to me than a fat person losing weight

You know what they say nowadays, right? You are what you are eating eats. And the fact that we don't digest corn adequately (the reason you see whole kernels in your poop) you need to do some research about what you're eating.

gmo monsanto ooga booga illuminati. have fun with your free range cage free vegetables grass fed eggs organic meat overpriced conspiracy foods at your hipster farmers market. most of the bad shit is fat soluble so trim the fat if you're scared. eating steak or other red meat from time to time is not going to make you balloon in size

i put on 10-15 pounds after my ACL surgery from just sitting around all summer. recently i've gotten back into jogging and lifting, and i downloaded a calorie counting app called MyPlate. it works great, you set in how much weight you want to lose each day, and it tracks your calories for you. you can scan in the foods you eat really easily too. lost that weight in like 3 weeks, and now im back to pre-surgery weight

If you give a fuck less about where your food comes from then you probably don't care what else you're eating. Calm down. Why are you so mad at hipsters? Keep supporting factory farms as much as possible!!! Fuck the little guys!

hipsters are lame. i eat pure sugar and nothing but processed foods all day long. my post was half sarcastic but i realize that never translates at all on the internet.

it's true you need to do research, but take what you read with a grain of salt. what was good for us 30 years ago was bad for us 20 years ago, what was good for us 20 years ago was bad for us 10 years ago, and what was good for us 10 years ago is bad for us today. is 2015 the year the mystery is solved and we have all answers about nutrition? i doubt it

sorry for the threadjack OP, i hope you are able to obtain your goals while enjoying some nice red meat occasionally

Fuck yeah rybak stoked for you buddy.

Ive really let myself go, i dont think ive ever been this out of shape. I need to get back to the gym and start a good diet again but stoked for you!

Thanks! I will actually look into that.

yeah after I had back surgery I gained a lot more weight and got even fatter haha.

woah dude... you have bigger problems than eating shitty quality food. Way to judge me based on one phrase that I said. Because I pointed out most farms (if you can call them that) feed their cows corn to fatten them up and you awesome I am some hipster illumanti dude. Well, you're wrong. I just care what I put into my body 90% of the of time. The other 10% I go off the rails. Maybe next time get to know somebody before you judge them and it won't make you look ignorant as fuck.

Then, go research how much better for you free-range eggs are than factory farm eggs and get back to me. Or don't and stay an ignorant mother fucker. I never said not to eat red meat. You're supposed to eat grass-fed beef. Grass is full of omega 3 and 6s for example which you will not get from a corn fed cow. The facts are there. If you choose to ignore them then why even bother pretending you care about your body?

i'm not judging you but more poking fun at the food conspiracists haha. all cholesterol is bad remember? oh wait that's old news, low carb everything! wait that's old too. low fat and fat free? oh right, it's gluten we're fighting these days. food ideals change every few years, don't be surprised if/when they do.

sorry if the hipster word struck a nerve with you and your boyfriend up there, i was more referring to the people running the farmers markets than the shoppers there. but feel free to take it as a personal attack if you want.

and to address your last paragraph: if the free range eggs are pasture fed they are marginally better, if they are not than they are about the same. contrary to your statement, omega 6 is plentiful in corn fed cows, fish oil is a convenient omega 3 supplement. corn fed steaks are tastier. internet arguments are dumb.

The point of shopping at a local farmers market is to support the local farms who care about their product. I rather give my money to local farmers than to the Walton Family or whoever the fuck owns the corporation down the road from you. You know the same corporation that doesn't give a fuck about the quality of the food or doesn't give a fuck about their employees. Of course I'm forced to hit up shoprite weekly because local markets aren't always in season here.

Your whole anti eat better quality argument is misguided cause you're mad at fedora wearing hipsters. Well, sorry bud I'd bet we look pretty similar. It would make more sense for you to be mad at a huge company for out sourcing to chili to save a penny an apple instead of paying Joe down the street.

this should be a thread about stoke and other nsers telling their stories of weight loss or needing help with it.

Not food wars: newschoolers edition.

eh my local markets jack the prices up about 2x what they should be, i feel they're taking advantage of their situation. paying 2x is different than saving a penny an apple. not worth it imo, we've obviously got different views on this so i'll just leave it at that.

this is a very important conversation to be having though for people trying to lose weight. There is so much bullshit out there. Granted the best way to learn is in baby steps and slowing fixing your meals and snacks. For example, I do not give a fuck how many calories a chicken breast with broccoli and a sweet potato is compared to a big mac. But, some diets focus on calories when is it really about cals? Or is is about what you're getting from the food? Take diet coke for example. It is called "diet" coke, but it makes you fat. (in other words, quit soda meow if you're trying to lose weight)

Low quality veggies and fruits have less nutrients. Just look at the veggies served at a buffet style salad bar or at mcdonalds verses the farmers market. Look at the color differences and how unhealthy cheap veggies look compared to great quality food. Look at the color difference in the lettuce and cucumbers. It is about being healthy as much as it is about not being a size 40 waist.

Yes, it may be more expensive but that is because it is expensive to run a farm. There are people out there who lease a fancy car, have a 52" TV, pay $100 a month for cable/TV/internet and then complain that Farmer Joe charges an extra 50 cents for his apples per pound. Well, Joe needs to eat too. And Joe will be working for walmart next year if we don't support the local farms. The same local farm that cares about the food and it's quality. Not just the bottom dollar. Food is fuel for your body. Would you go to the gas station that you can save 10 cents a gallon at but they water down their gas? I sure as fuck wouldn't. So, why give your body lower quality shit so you can save pennies??

People cry about there being no jobs, but then don't want to pay for the locally made quality.
