Footage management software - any suggestions?

Just got a gopro, need something that can sort of tag clips so I don't have to go through every one of them to figure out where/when/who is in that clip. Use on PC with win8. any suggestions?

I heard of this really good one called Intern, it's free, all you have to give it is "college credit" and a little bit of free stuff. It can get kind of lazy though, but I guess that's what you get by not paying for it.

Make a bin in Premiere or whatever you edit in then make subclips and name them accordingly? Pretty sure thats what everybody does. Its sort of time consuming but its just part of editing.

yeah, as already stated I think unless you get 600 shots a day you might as well just take the 20 minutes at the end of the day and take a look at what you got/rename clips. I personally enjoy going over all my footy at the end of the day.

I just organize within beach project, then I'll occasionally pull a few for the reel I keep telling myself I'll make

I could, then I end up getting file names like "killington_trees_bigdipper_icy_crash_blabla_idkwhyidothis.mp4". Can we do better than this?

Thats pretty normal. If you do any sort of work for a company that had multiple shoots/editors you'll label something like this:

date_location_person_feature_trick_shooters intials and then maybe a symbol to rate the shot(*, **, ***)

IE l1p labeling

130417_Sun Valley Superunknown_jump 1 anton cork 5 mute 2 EH*

Just how the world works my dude.

Yup. I don't really know of any shortcut automated way of doing this.

Although doing it in Adobe Bridge would probably be better than doing it in the regular windows file explorer. Bridge always pulls up thumbnails faster for me and I think you could also tag clips with keywords and rate/reject them as well.

I haven't tried bridge, I might give it a spin. Since I use mac, finder works well enough, quick clips and easy to rename and everything. Thats a sweet was of naming the clips though pussyfooter^ Im going to start doing that, cause I end up with stuff like Funnyparksmashboxfail.mp4, which doesn;t mean anything to me a week after I shot it, so this should make my life a lot easier thanks for the tip.

I can't offer you college credit per say but I can offer you a vast amount of knowledge, experience, and connections that will one day launch you into a successful career. Oh and free Chipotle. You interested?

I can promise 5 with a chance to re-negotiate after an undisclosed period of time.

But seriously, as tedious as it is, just go through and label everything. This also gives you the chance to throw away the garbage and see exactly what footage you have. When it comes time to edit you'll thank yourself.
