Over the summer my friend Carter and I worked

on this little 10-song project. He's a pretty talented guy and I can't

wait to get a full band together for him to play with. He jams the

guitar and sings, and on some tracks he plays the piano. I recorded and

mixed the whole project, and my friend Pat Collier over at Dallas Austin

studios has mastered it. We plan to release the EP in the upcoming

week, for now I released one of the songs, "Lighthouse" for everyone to

get a feel for it. Give it a listen and share it with your friends on

twitter or facebook!

What folk music are you guys into?

yeah, its just an acoustic album, his next project that we are going to begin is going to have a full band and be very folky rock n roll

Im really into Bon Iver, Tyler Berkum, Gregory alan isokov, and Fionn Regan to name a few. This is one of my favorites. I also jam a little acoustic myself.

i always listened to some folky music, but i downloaded a playlist a while back called "The Greatest Folking Playlist of All Time," and its got a ton of great fucking music. got me into more and more folky tunes, to the point where it's the majority of what i'm listening to right now. some of my folk and folk/indie highlights:

tallest man on earth

deer tick

carolina chocolate drops

aa bondy

undone in sorrow

blitzen trapper

the mountain goats

great lake swimmers

elliott brood

iron and wine

jason collett

mason jennings

neil young - harvest

johnny cash - the man comes around

nick drake

raised among wolves

sarah harmer

wes makepeace

but if there's one song from all that stuff you should listen to right now, it's this:

I haven't even taken my SG out of it's case in the last three months. I'm on a total acoustic kick as of late.

I have so much I want to show you. god, I don't know anyone my age who listens to Sarah Harmer.

I'll just leave you this for now

Mumford and Sons, Bob Dylan, a little Jim Croce, If you consider it folk. As for metal stuff, Falkenbach is pretty badass.

Great Big Pile Of Leaves

Tallest Man on Earth

Blair Crimmins and The Hookers

King Creosote & John Hopkins

Vashti Bunyan

Vetiver

Right Away, Great Captain

Jordaan Mason & The Horse Museum

The Microphones

Andrew Jackson Jihad (folk punk)

Great bloomers are a band that I am really into right now. This song is off their new album but their first album called speak of trouble is even better.

I love folk/bluegrass type music, a few of my favorites

billy bragg

wilco

chatham county line

current swell

blitzen trapper, folk/rock

the dodos

the wood brothers

trampled by turtles, folkish

ryan adams

mumford of course

middle brother

mason jennings

josh ritter

johnny flynn

the infamous stringdusters

frank turner

then of course the classics like woody guthrie, leadbelly, crosby stills and nash, phil ochs, pete seeger, donovan

I personally think Mumford is very rockish, I think the misconception with their genre lies in the banjo...everyone thinks it makes them folky but the guys just like it

They're not even a great bluegrass band. Entertaining yes. Jeff austin is one energetic motherfucker, but still. Dave Johnston just doesn't have it on the banjo. For me that's what I look for in bluegrass band. I like a banjo player that can rip.

Id have to agree with the fact that Gogol happens to dabble between a few genres, one of them being folk.

acoustic /indie/folk??

edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros

mumford and sons

bon iver

Ben howard

the tallest man on earth
