Flying with ski boots?

I know that US airways counts a boot bag and your skis as one part of luggage, but I am wondering if I could pack all of my clothes and shit in these two pieces and if they would still only count as one. Anyone have any experience with this?

I've always crammed as much stuff as I can into my ski bag. never had a problem before. I've had 3 pairs of skis in it before too. although that's with Westjet and they always try to make themselves seem happy and shit so if they told me off it might not look good

You can cram ski bags totally full as long as it comes under 50pounds. If you have sharp edges I would recommend wrapping your skis in clothes you don't mind accidentally getting ripped.

I always bring a really big backpack and slang my boots over my shoulders....kinda annoying walking around with them but never had a problem with them this way and makes it way easier than dealing with a bootbag and sizes and shit with carry ons

yea i always strap my helmet up to my bag as well never had a problem withi t.

Usually put all ski shit into my ski bag

then only a roller bag of clothes to wear usually not to big since all the ski stuff is in your ski bag.

i always just strap my boots and carry them on as my personal item. it helps save space in your checked baggage. plus, if the flight loses your baggage, you aren't as fucked. you can get by on demo skis for a while and still have a great time, but skiing in rental boots sucks ass.

Delta u get to bring a boot bag with the ski bag free of charge... But I usually bring my boot bag on carry on incase they lose my ski bag my trip won't be ruined

my carry on is like this. roller bag packed with all my shit. backpack with as much as i can cram in it. Helmet clipped to the backpack and my ski boots over my shoulder never had a problem

I usually fly air canada and bring a ski bag and a roller bag as check luggage, although one time i had a ski bag, a roller bag and a boot bag and the lady carefully read the rules and it says "skis and boots" so she counted the ski bag and boot bag as one. Your best bet for any issues is to call the airline and/or the airport and sort things out with them to avoid disappointment, as many things change quite often.

pack that bad boy full! just dont go over 50lbs because depending on who you get they could potentially have a huge problem.

i once got reprimanded and a "heavy" tag put on my 51 lb ski bag.

i was fully expecting this to be a video of somebody lifting out of his bindings and flying through the air in a pair of full tilts, not a repost. i am disappointed.

wear them onto the plane, have regular shoes jammed into your back pack. its foot wear, as far as i know they cant force you to pay for the boots of they are your current footwear.

i mis-read. yeah, just jam them full of shit, as long as they arent over weight you're golden. also, to save more weight, wear your ski jacket through security and fill the pockets with smaller things (gloves, goggles, ski socks, ect)

ive had no problem just throwing them over my carry on backpack. having your boots lost would be terrible.

There are tons of tricks for travelling with ski gear. Number 1 is carrying your ski boots on board as a personal item, as someone mentioned above. Just sling them over your shoulder. The airlines (at least here in Australia) will never say you can't carry them on board because they know you'll just put them on your feet if they raise it. I pack as much stuff as possible into a snowboard bag but the 23kg weight limit is a bitch. There are heaps of things you can keep our of your checked luggage to keep it down. Eg. Pants and jacket. Couple of kilograms each. Roll them up and put them in your backpack. Worst comes to worst and they wont let you take your backpack on the plane because its too heavy, pull your jacket out and wear it. Same goes with hoodies. If you can handle wearing 2 hoodies and a ski jacket while walking through customs then you can keep the weight out of your checked bag and out of your backpack. Then once you're through customs just go and roll them up and put them back into your backpack. I've done this several times. The best time was coming back from Japan. I had my ski pants on over my jeans, wearing 2 hoodies and a ski jacket with another ski jacket draped over my backpack. After checking my ski bag in and confirming it was within the weight limit the dude asked me to carry it around the corner to the oversize luggage area. Once I was around the corner and out of sight I jammed all that stuff back into it. Oh and leather gloves should go in your backpack too....every little bit of weight counts.

Does the ski boots over the shoulder with a carry on backpack trick still work? That's the only thing I'm concerned about. I've got a suitcase, duffle bag, and ski bag. Just wondering if I can bring boots on the plane with me. I'm flying Delta by the way.

When I saw this thread I thought you had figured out an new way to fly using ski boots as propulsion

grab a small duffle and pack it as a boot bag, then bringa backpack too. I always pack pants, jacket, boots, helmet, gloves, goggles all into my mini duffle as a carry on. Then I have a backpack too with some rando shit, then my ski bag as the only checked bag.

I've never seen anyone hassled before by the size of their duffle, so to avoid having to pay at a last resort carryon it on with you. Also if you pack all the stuff you need to ski besides skis, ifyo shit gets lost, then you can just rent on day one instead of having to miss a day because Delta fucked you over

In case I do get hassled, what does this say? Thanks for the other stuff though I'll do the duffle and backpack idea. I hadn't even realized you could bring on two bags.

yeah carryon is your friend when it comes to skiing.

When I fly southwest to utah and shit, I bring like 2 carryons and then my ski bag plus a suitcase, with no surcharges. That includes 2 pairs of skis and a fully packed suitcase. Just push the system to the edge and beat it

this. boot bag has my boots, helmet, gloves, goggles, snowpants, etc in it, and i use that as a carryon and just bring my backpack and stow it under the seat or whatever
