Flying with 2 Sets of Skis Help

So I'm flying out to Salt Lake, I'm planning on taking both my park and pow sticks for the trip. Most airline policies state that I can take one set with my bag (its a double) but it doesn't mention what prices will be if they slap me with two.

Basically anyone who has experience with more than one set of skis, what have been the results? I don't want to be charged an extra 100$ both ways.

my ski bag is huge and i always fly with park skis, pow skis, glidecam, tripod, and two sets of poles in the same bag, never have problems. sometimes i even manage to fit my boots, jacket, pants, and some other clothes in there and i still get through with minimal hassle and don't have to pay.

They are not going to open up your bag and count the number of skis. That is the TSA's job. The Airline will only care about exterior dimensions and weight. Get your google on.

well when i fly with two pairs of skis, glidecam, tripod, and two sets of poles, im pretty sure it still comes in under 50.

when i had my boots and shit in there too it was like 64, and they told me that they're supposed to charge me but they weren't going to. had that happen a few times actually

i always fly with two sets of skis and i didnt get charged excess baggage. just dont pack alot of other stuf. also make sure your under the weight allowance and if nto just swap stuf between bags.

I had two pairs of skis, all my outerwear, poles and some other junk in my bag and they let it slide in Pittsburgh, but on the way back out of SLUT they gave me shit for it and I had to take out 12 lbs of stuff and cram it into my backpack. I think I was wearing most of my ski outerwear in the airport because of it, haha, worst super stoned airport experience of my life.

Yeah as long as the bag is within dimensions and under 50lbs you're safe. Pack as much stuff in a carry on + backpack as you can, and you should be able to get away with just paying for the ski bag.

Most you should see is a $125.00 charge. But I usually get charged around $75.00 flying out of Newark with 2 skis.

i never get charged and i always fly with both sets in my bag. Its a special item so i dont think it is required to meet the same weight req of a normal bag. also i always carry on my boots as my personal item. and put as much of my gear in my carry on. If the airline loses my skis thats one thing. But u def wont have much fun if you have to rent boots and buy all new outerwear.

I flew on Southwest out to SLC with 2 pairs of skis in my bag. It was overweight both ways, but on the way there they didn't charge me, on the way back it was $50.

It really depends on what airline you're taking, and even what mood the person behind the counter is in. I'd check with airline's website (or even call them up) to see what their policy is. Also, some airlines let you bring a 3rd bag for your boots if you have a ski bag, so that can help a lot.
